The extra‐pancreatic effects of GLP‐1 receptor agonists: a focus on the cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and central nervous systems
Abstract The glucagon‐like peptide‐1 receptor agonists (GLP‐1RAs) exenatide and liraglutide have been shown to improve glycaemic control and beta‐cell function with a low risk of hypoglycaemia in people with type 2 diabetes. GLP‐1 receptors are also expressed in extra‐pancreatic tissues and trial data suggest GLP‐1RAs also have effects beyond their glycaemic actions. Evaluation of the effect of GLP ‐1 agonists on quality of bowel preparation for colonoscopy in patients with diabetes

Asian Subpopulations May Exhibit Greater Cardiovascular Benefit from Long-Acting Glucagon-Like Peptide 1 Receptor Agonists: A Meta-Analysis of Cardiovascular Outcome Trials.
CONCLUSION: Long-acting GLP-1 RAs reduced risks of MACE and CV deaths in high-risk patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Our findings of a particularly effective reduction in CV events with GLP-1 RA in Asian populations merits further exploration and dedicated trials in specific populations. The Discovery and Development of Liraglutide and Semaglutide
We describe one such approach, albumin binding, and explain how it was applied in the development of the human GLP-1 analog liraglutide once daily and, subsequently, semaglutide once weekly. The pharmacology of these two long-acting GLP-1 analogs, in terms of improving glycemic control, reducing body weight and decreasing cardiovascular (CV) risk, is also reviewed, together with some novel biology. Cluster Analysis of Cardiovascular Phenotypes in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes and Established Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular Disease: A Potential Approach to Precision Medicine
