Long-Term Effectiveness of Cilostazol in Patients with Hemodialysis with Peripheral Artery Disease
CONCLUSION: Continuous treatment of cilostazol in patients with HD with PAD significantly decreases the risk of ED visits, hemorrhagic stroke, and cardiovascular events and improves ED visit-free and cardiovascular event-free rates during long-term follow-up.PMID:36216573 | DOI:10.5551/jat.63404

Effectiveness and safety of oral anticoagulants for non-valvular atrial fibrillation: a population-based cohort study in primary healthcare in Catalonia
Conclusion: Being men, a previous event and DOAC-switch posed a higher risk for all study outcomes. direct oral anticoagulants had a protective effect against cerebral bleeding in comparison to vitamin K antagonists. Adherence to direct oral anticoagulants resulted in lower risk of stroke and cerebral bleeding. We found no differences in the risk of stroke and gastrointestinal bleeding when we compared direct oral anticoagulants vs. vitamin K antagonists.

The risk of cardiovascular disease in systemic sclerosis: a population-based cohort study
Conclusions These findings provide the first general population-based evidence that SSc is associated with an increased risk of developing MI, stroke and PVD. Further insight into disease mechanisms, as well as how disease subtype, organ involvement and medication use may alter these increased risks, is needed.

Carotid Endarterectomy in Octogenarian: Short- and Midterm Results
Conclusion: The good immediate results and good probability of survival at 3 years after surgery conveys a real benefit of this surgery in this age group, but patients should be selected on a case by case basis. In our experience, the presence of bilateral lesions should be a significant influence criterion in the preoperative risk assessment. Other evaluation criteria, such as cardiac status, are needed to optimize the selection of asymptomatic patients in particular.

Vorapaxar for reduction of thrombotic cardiovascular events in myocardial infarction and peripheral artery disease.
CONCLUSION: Vorapaxar is a novel antiplatelet agent that has demonstrated efficacy in reducing atherosclerotic events in patients with a history of MI or PAD without a history of stroke, transient ischemic attack, or ICH when taken in combination with aspirin and clopidogrel. Diagnostic Impact of Transesophageal Echocardiography in Patients with Acute Cerebral Ischemia
ConclusionTEE identified a potential structural cardioembolic source in nearly 10% of our selected patient population with acute ischemic stroke or TIA, thus underlining its diagnostic value. Our data suggest that patients with hitherto unknown stroke etiology should be considered for additional TEE.

Carotid stenting versus endarterectomy for the treatment of carotid artery stenosis: Contemporary results from a large single center study
ConclusionThe risk of the composite endpoint did not differ significantly between those undergoing CAS versus CEA. The stenting group demonstrated a higher rate of periprocedural stroke, which was also apparent when patients were stratified by stenting department. These differences were likely driven by variation in baseline medical comorbidities and symptom status. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Is poor oral health a risk marker for incident cardiovascular disease hospitalisation and all-cause mortality? Findings from 172 630 participants from the prospective 45 and Up Study
Conclusions Tooth loss and, to a lesser extent, self-rated health of teeth and gums, are markers for increased risk of IHD, PVD and all-cause mortality. Tooth loss is also a marker for increased risk of HF.

Impact of hospital volume on long ‐term neurological outcome in patients undergoing carotid artery stenting
ConclusionsCAS performed in high‐volume hospitals was associated with less new ischemic stroke after discharging from the index CAS, compared to those in low‐volume hospitals. © 2017 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Peripheral Artery Disease and Subsequent Risk of Infectious Disease in Older Individuals: The ARIC Study
CONCLUSION: Peripheral artery disease and borderline low ABI were robustly associated with infection-related hospitalization of older adults. The contribution of PAD to infection risk was comparable to that of CHD/stroke, warranting clinical attention to PAD for the prevention of infectious diseases.PMID:36210200 | DOI:10.1016/j.mayocp.2022.03.038

Cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis: a systematic literature review
Abstract Previous epidemiological studies have demonstrated a high prevalence of cardiovascular (CV) risk factors in psoriasis patients, including metabolic syndrome, cigarette smoking, obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, insulin resistance and dyslipidaemia. An increase in CV morbidity and mortality attributable to psoriasis is still under question. Primary objective: to assess CV morbidity and mortality in psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis (PsA) including stroke, coronary artery disease, myocardial infarction (MI) and peripheral artery disease. Secondary objectives: to assess if psoriasis per se is an independent C...
