Fast Heartburn Relief Without Deadly Drugs
Since gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) was first identified in the early 1930s, the number of people experiencing heartburn has increased substantially. In fact, one study shows that in just 10 years, the number of people experiencing:1 Any GERD symptoms increased by 30% Symptoms at least once a week increased by 47% Severe GERD increased by 24% While these numbers are concerning, I’ll admit they’re not surprising considering the typical American diet. Our nutrition-less, grain-based diet of carbohydrates and starches has wrecked our health and made our bodies behave in ways nature never intended. This has led ...

Endocrine Disruptors and Health Effects in Africa: A Call for Action
Conclusion: To address the many challenges posed by EDCs, we argue that Africans should take the lead in prioritization and evaluation of environmental hazards, including EDCs. We recommend the institution of education and training programs for chemical users, adoption of the precautionary principle, establishment of biomonitoring programs, and funding of community-based epidemiology and wildlife research programs led and funded by African institutes and private companies. https://doi.org/10.1289/EHP1774 Received: 16 February 2017 Revised: 22 May 2017 Accepted: 24 May 2017 Published: 22 August 2017 Address correspond...

The Discovery and Development of Liraglutide and Semaglutide
We describe one such approach, albumin binding, and explain how it was applied in the development of the human GLP-1 analog liraglutide once daily and, subsequently, semaglutide once weekly. The pharmacology of these two long-acting GLP-1 analogs, in terms of improving glycemic control, reducing body weight and decreasing cardiovascular (CV) risk, is also reviewed, together with some novel biology. In addition, we describe the importance of accurate target (GLP-1 receptor) tissue expression analysis. Now an established class of agents, GLP-1-based therapies represent a significant advance in the treatment of T2D. All curr...

NAMPT as a Dedifferentiation-Inducer Gene: NAD+ as Core Axis for Glioma Cancer Stem-Like Cells Maintenance
Conclusion and Perspectives Gliomas are the most prevalent primary brain cancer in adults and include a broad category of tumors including astrocytoma, oligodendroglioma, and GBM. Regardless of tumor aggressiveness, malignancy, and infiltration, these glia-derived tumors rarely exceed a median survival time of 12–14 months. Driven by the infiltrative nature of these tumors, the clinical approach is difficult and relapses often occur with fatal consequences. These unsuccessful attempts to control glioma's fate have fostered research looking for more effective therapies. (GSCs) are a small subset of CD133&#...

BMI Modifies the Association Between Depression Symptoms and Serum Copper Levels
Biol Trace Elem Res. 2022 Nov 27. doi: 10.1007/s12011-022-03505-y. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDepression is one of the most common mental disorders which dramatically threatens public health and wellness. Copper has been known to be involved in many biological processes that could help explaining the occurrence of depression. However, studies focusing on its effect have yielded mixed results. The present study aims to evaluate the association between serum copper levels and depression symptoms. It also investigates the effect of modification of BMI (body mass index) on depression symptoms. A total of 5419 US adults aged...
