Abstract 110: Long-Term Health Status Outcomes in Young Women with Acute Myocardial Infarction: Results from the VIRGO Study Session Title: Poster Session I
Conclusion: Compared with men, young women are more likely to have "poor" health status outcomes after AMI. This information is critically important in developing targets for gender-specific interventions to improve young women’s recovery post AMI.

Bare-Metal vs. Drug-Eluting Stents in Patients With Atrial Fibrillation Undergoing Percutaneous Coronary Intervention.
Conclusions:In real-world patients with AF undergoing PCI, DES use was associated with outcomes comparable to those with BMS without excess bleeding complications. More ST was seen in BMS-treated patients. PMID: 25298168 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The prevalence and outcomes of transradial percutaneous coronary intervention for acute coronary syndrome. Analysis from the single-centre ISACS-TC Registry (International Survey of Acute Coronary Syndrome in Transitional Countries) (2010-12)
The aims were to compare the prevalence and short-term outcomes of transradial (TRA) percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) for acute coronary syndrome (ACS) in dedicated radial centre. This was a single-centre observational study of 3484 consecutively enrolled patients with ACS in a 3-year period (2010–12). There were 1648 patients with ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) and 1836 with non-ST-elevation ACS (NSTEACS). All patients underwent diagnostic coronary angiography within 24 h (STEMI) or within 72 h (NSTEACS). Percutaneous coronary intervention was performed in 84.9% patients (96.6% with STEMI and 74....

Particularities in coronary revascularization in elderly patients presenting with ST segment elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI)
Publication date: August 2014 Source:Cor et Vasa, Volume 56, Issue 4 Author(s): Maria Dorobanţu , Lucian Câlmâc , Andrada Bogdan , Vlad Bătăilă , Bogdan Drăgoescu , Andrei Radu , Mugur Marinescu , Şerban Arvanitopol , Gabriel Tatu-Chiţoiu , Rodica Niculescu Nowadays, ST elevation acute myocardial infarction (STEMI) is seen with greater incidence in older patients. Current guidelines recommend an immediate invasive evaluation and eventually primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in all STEMI patients regardless of age. Nevertheless, data in literature show a significant underuse of interventional treatm...

Optimal medical therapy for coronary artery disease in 2011 - perspectives from the STICH Trial.
Authors: Whayne TF, Saha SP, Quevedo K, Mukherjee D Abstract Medical, percutaneous interventional, and surgical treatments for the management of coronary heart disease have progressed markedly during the past decade. There is evidence to suggest that for patients with stable coronary heart disease optimal medical therapy is equal in effectiveness for lowering the risk of major cardiovascular events, such as cardiovascular death, myocardial infarction, and stroke, as are revascularization procedures, such as coronary artery bypass grafting or percutaneous coronary intervention. The landmark Surgical Treatment for Is...

Myocardial infarction in older than 75 years: An increasing population. CASTUO study
Conclusions Patients older than 75 years with acute myocardial infarction had lower survival and were treated with fewer beta-blockers, statins and angioplasty, indications that are associated with lower mortality.

Outcome of Early Revascularization Surgery in Patients with ST‐Elevation Myocardial Infarction
ConclusionsIn patients with ST‐elevation myocardial infarction who required emergency coronary artery bypass surgery, there was no difference in procedure complications or mortality between early (within 24 hours) or later (more than 24 hours). That was noted at one month and one year after the index myocardial infarction.

Outcome of patients admitted with acute coronary syndrome on palliative treatment: insights from the nationwide AMIS Plus Registry 1997-2014
Conclusions Patients with ACS treated palliatively were older, sicker, with more heart failure at admission and very high in-hospital mortality. While refraining from more active therapy may often constitute the most humane and appropriate approach, we think it is important to also evaluate these patients and include them in registries and outcome evaluations. Clinical trial number ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT01 305 785.

Randomized Trial of Complete Versus Lesion-Only Revascularization in Patients Undergoing Primary Percutaneous Coronary Intervention for STEMI and Multivessel Disease The CvLPRIT Trial
ConclusionsIn patients presenting for P-PCI with multivessel disease, index admission complete revascularization significantly lowered the rate of the composite primary endpoint at 12 months compared with treating only the IRA. In such patients, inpatient total revascularization may be considered, but larger clinical trials are required to confirm this result and specifically address whether this strategy is associated with improved survival. Effect of Gender on Patients with ST-elevation and Non-ST-elevation Myocardial Infarction without Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease
We compared the prognosis of patients with ST-elevation MI (STEMI) with non-ST-elevation MI (NSTEMI) without obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) and the risk associated with gender for future cardiovascular (CV) events. The study population was selected from 95,849 patients undergoing coronary angiography for MI during the period 2005-2010 and registered in the Swedish Coronary Angiography and Angioplasty Registry. Outcome analyses, including all-cause death, MI, congestive heart failure (CHF), stroke and revascularization, were performed on 2268 STEMI patients and 10,904 NSTEMI patients without obstructive CAD (

Increased cystatin C levels as a risk factor of cardiovascular events in patients with preserved estimated glomerular filtration rate after elective percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stents
Abstract Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is an important risk factor for coronary artery disease (CAD) and cardiovascular events. Cystatin C (CysC) has been proposed as a sensitive marker for CKD. However, the predictive value of CysC for cardiovascular events in CAD patients with preserved estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) is unclear. We enrolled 277 consecutive patients undergoing elective percutaneous coronary intervention with sirolimus-eluting stents (SES). Patients with an eGFR ≤60 ml/min/1.73 m2 were excluded. Serum CysC levels were measured immediately before SES implantation. Major adverse ...
