Atherosclerosis as a Risk Factor for IBD: A Population-Based Case-Control Study
CONCLUSIONS: A history of an atherosclerotic-related condition is associated with increased odds of developing IBD, particularly among older adults. Future studies should investigate whether drugs targeting atherosclerotic-related inflammation may prevent IBD in higher-risk individuals.PMID:37721310 | DOI:10.14309/ajg.0000000000002502

Preferred monotherapy after short-term dual antiplatelet therapy: Systematic review and network meta-analysis of randomized trials
CONCLUSIONS: Compared with aspirin monotherapy following short-term DAPT, ticagrelor following 3-month DAPT was associated with a reduced risk of primary bleeding outcomes without increasing any ischemic outcomes.PMID:37562542 | DOI:10.1016/j.jjcc.2023.08.001

Secondary thrombocythemia with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction as the first manifestation: a case report
CONCLUSION: After a thorough analysis of the pertinent literature, we discovered that several retrospective studies demonstrated the effectiveness of cytoreductive therapy in significantly reducing platelet counts. Based on this finding, we prescribed hydroxyurea to our patient, which led to a gradual decrease in platelet count and ultimately resulted in a return to normal levels.PMID:37554887 | PMC:PMC10405984 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001067

Fixed-Dose Combination Therapy for Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases in CKD: An Individual Participant Data Meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: A fixed-dose combination treatment strategy is effective and safe at preventing cardiovascular disease, irrespective of eGFR but relative and absolute risk reductions are larger in individuals with low eGFR.PMID:37550842 | DOI:10.2215/CJN.0000000000000251

Changes in process and outcome for ST elevation myocardial infarction in central China from 2011 to 2018
CONCLUSIONS: Gradual implementation of the guideline-recommended treatments in STEMI patients from 2011 to 2018 has been associated with decreased in-hospital mortality. However, gaps persist between clinical practice and guideline recommendation. Public awareness, reperfusion strategies, and construction of chest pain centers need to be further underscored in central China.PMID:37545028 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002698

Amplified inhibition of atherosclerotic plaque-induced platelet activation by glenzocimab with dual antiplatelet therapy
CONCLUSIONS: Addition of glenzocimab to aspirin and ticagrelor enhances platelet inhibition via multiple mechanisms of atherothrombosis. Compared to a GPIIb/IIIa inhibitor, glenzocimab shares multiple antithrombotic effects, with less inhibition of mechanisms involved in general haemostasis.PMID:37541591 | DOI:10.1016/j.jtha.2023.07.018
