Taiwan guidelines for the diagnosis and management of pediatric atopic dermatitis: Consensus statement of the Taiwan Academy of Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology
J Microbiol Immunol Infect. 2022 Apr 20:S1684-1182(22)00051-2. doi: 10.1016/j.jmii.2022.03.004. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAtopic dermatitis (also known as atopic eczema) is a chronic relapsing inflammatory skin disease commonly seen in children, with increasing prevalence over the past few decades in many countries including Taiwan. The management of pediatric atopic dermatitis can be challenging, particularly as treatment options are expanding with the emergence of novel systemic and topical anti-inflammatory medications in recent years. The Taiwan Academy of Pediatric Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (TAPAAI) has devel...

Exploring the Heterogeneity of IgE-Mediated Food Allergy through Latent Class Analysis
In this study, we aimed to investigate distinct subgroups among patients with FAs using data from 524 children/adolescents.Methods: 524 patients with IgE-mediated FA (353 male [67%]; median age 4.4 years [IQR:3.0 –6.8]), 354 (68%) had multiple FA. The history of AD, asthma, AR, and anaphylaxis was recorded in 59.4%, 35.5%, 24.2%, and 51.2% of the patients, respectively. Latent class analysis was carried out to distinguish clinical FA phenotypes using five potential markers of allergy severity (single/multi ple FA, never/inactive/current asthma and AD, AR, and anaphylaxis). Results: Three distinct phenotypes were identifie...

Clinical predictors of wheeze trajectories and associations with allergy in Asian children
CONCLUSION: The timing of viral infection occurrence may determine the type of wheeze trajectory development in children. Children with family history of allergy and viral infections in early life may be predisposed to persistent wheeze development and the associated comorbidities early allergic sensitization and eczema.PMID:37419414 | DOI:10.1016/j.anai.2023.06.024

Filaggrin gene mutation associations with peanut allergy persist despite variations in peanut allergy diagnostic criteria or asthma status
Recently, our research team found a strong and significant association between loss-of-function (LOF) mutations in filaggrin (FLG), a gene that encodes a skin barrier protein, in European and Canadian individuals with peanut allergy (PA). These mutations result in a barrier defect and have been associated with atopic dermatitis, asthma, and allergic rhinitis. This finding represents the strongest genetic risk factor found to date for PA, a highly heritable disease, with an estimated odds ratio (OR) between 1.9 (Canadian) and 5.3 (English, Dutch, and Irish combined). Because there is no uniformly accepted definition of PA s...

Wheeze phenotypes in young children have different courses during the preschool period.
CONCLUSION: These results show that remission is most frequently observed in mild EVW and that no remission is observed in atopic MTW. PMID: 24054360 [PubMed - in process]

Role of maternal elimination diets and human milk IgA in development of cow's milk allergy in the infants
ConclusionsMaternal CM avoidance was associated with lower levels of mucosal specific IgA levels and development of CMA in infants. Clinical relevanceHM IgA may play a role in preventing excessive, uncontrolled food antigen uptake in the gut lumen and thereby in the prevention of CMA.This article is protected by copyright. Association between childhood allergic disease, psychological comorbidity, and injury requiring medical attention.
CONCLUSION: The results suggest that the association between allergic disease and injury is multifactorial, including being secondary to PBD. PMID: 24713577 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
