The Prevalence and Factors Associated with Antiepileptic Drug Use in US Nursing Home Residents
ConclusionsAED use was common in nursing homes, with gabapentin most commonly used (presumably for pain). That multiple comorbidities were associated with AED use underscores the need for future studies to investigate the safety and effectiveness of AED use in nursing home residents.

Transitions to family caregiving: enrolling incident caregivers and matched non-caregiving controls from a population-based study.
CONCLUSION: Comparable, population-based samples of incident caregivers and matched non-caregivers have been enrolled. Future analyses will examine within-person changes in health and circulating biomarkers as a function of the transition to caregiving.

211 A Novel Integrated Care Approach: Supporting Older Persons to Remain at Home
ConclusionThe ICT service has augmented the existing Day Hospital with timely multi-disciplinary assessment and treatment enabling older persons ’ independence within their home in addition to forward planning if dependency levels increase. Additional benefits include reduction of primary care team waiting lists and forging links with our community and local rehab services. Future ambitions include recruitment of specialist nursing and dir ect referral pathways from our community colleagues.

ConclusionThis study highlights the high prevalence of unidentified or poorly controlled VRF in people with mild cognitive symptoms attending a memory service. Given its importance to brain health and mitigation of future cognitive decline, a structured focus on identifying and managing these VRF in this setting is necessary. Exercise-based lifestyle programs should be embedded in post-diagnostic services for this population.

317 Incidence of Cognitive Impairment after Stroke: a Retrospective Cohort of Rehabilitation Patients.
ConclusionThis study replicates Pendlebury and Rothwell ’s findings that over a third of people suffering from severe strokes will develop cognitive impairment. This is of critical importance to stroke clinicians as it should prompt frank discussions with stroke patients and their families about prognosis, recovery and future planning.

Comparison of the risk for dementia between physicians and the general population: a nationwide population-based cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Physicians had a lower prevalence for dementia than the general population. The prevalence for dementia in specific subgroups of physicians was higher, which needs to be clarified by further studies.

Blood amyloid levels and risk of dementia in the Ginkgo Evaluation of Memory Study (GEMS): A longitudinal analysis
We examined baseline plasma β-amyloid (Aβ) levels in relationship to incident dementia during a period of 8.5 years in 2840 subjects age>75 years; 2381 were cognitively normal (CN) and 450 mild cognitive impairment.ResultsIncreased plasma Aβ1-40 and Aβ1-42 levels were associated with gender (women), age, low education, creatinine levels, history of stroke, and hypertension. CN participants who developed dementia had lower levels of Aβ1-42 and Aβ1-42/Aβ1-40 ratio compared with those who did not. Association of nimodipine and choline alphoscerate in the treatment of cognitive impairment in patients with cerebral small vessel disease: study protocol for a randomized placebo-controlled trial-the CONIVaD trial.
DISCUSSION: CONIVaD study is the first randomized controlled trial to examine the cognitive efficacy of combined choline alphoscerate-nimodipine treatment in VCI patients. Results of this pilot study will serve as a methodological basis for other clinical controlled, multicentric, double-blinded, and randomized trials.
