Acceptability of non-drug therapies in older people with orthostatic hypotension: a qualitative study
Orthostatic hypotension (OH) is highly prevalent in older populations. It is associated with a reduced quality of life and an increased risk of dementia, stroke and death. Non-pharmalogical therapies are the r...

The 12-Word Philadelphia Verbal Learning Test Performances in Older Adults: Brain MRI and Cerebrospinal Fluid Correlates and Regression-Based Normative Data
Conclusion: The PVLT appears sensitive to markers of neurodegeneration, including temporal regions affected by AD. Conversely, in cognitively normal older adults, PVLT performance seems to relate to white matter disease and axonal injury, perhaps reflecting non-AD pathways to cognitive change. Enhanced normative data enrich the clinical utility of this tool.Dement Geriatr Cogn Disord Extra 2018;8:476 –491

The nature of decision-making in people living with dementia: a systematic review.
CONCLUSION: Decision-making in dementia is complex and influenced by many factors beyond cognitive impairment alone. This review indicates that decision-making in dementia takes place through decisional styles, determined by unique levels of involvement from people living with dementia and their carers. Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis of Prevalence in Post-Stroke Neurocognitive Disorders in Hospital-Based Studies
Conclusion: More than half of stroke survivors experience post-stroke NCD, corresponding to mild post-stroke NCD in two-thirds of cases and major post-stroke NCD in one-third of cases. Harmonization of stroke assessment and cognitive score thresholds is urgently needed to allow more accurate estimation of post-stroke NCD prevalence, especially mild post-stroke NCD.Dement Geriatr Cogn Disord 2018;46:322 –334

Joining forces to improve psychosocial care for people with cognitive deficits across diagnoses: social health as a common framework.
Abstract Cognitive deficits such as memory problems have a major impact on independence in daily life and participation in society in several populations, such as people with dementia, brain injury (i.e. stroke) or a severe mental illness such as schizophrenia. Similarities in the impact on participation and well-being have resulted in the development of comparable psychosocial interventions across populations, aiming to support people to adapt to cognitive deficits or by adapting the environment. These interventions are developed separately, without using the expertise in other fields. We argue that each of the f...

Mild Cognitive Impairment that Does Not Progress to Dementia: A Population ‐Based Study
ConclusionsMCI subgroups with different 5 ‐year outcomes had some distinct characteristics suggesting different underlying causes. The progressors, unlike the reverters, had a profile broadly typical of Alzheimer's disease; the stable MCIs had other, including vascular, morbidity. These data shed light on the heterogeneity of MCI in the p opulation.

Right hippocampus atrophy is independently associated with Alzheimer's disease with psychosis
ConclusionWe found that more severe hippocampal atrophy is associated with AD+P than with AD −P. In addition, atrophy of the right hippocampus remained significant among AD+P after adjustment for frontal volume. These findings suggest that right hippocampal atrophy is independently associated with AD+P.

Genetic overlap between vascular pathologies and Alzheimer's dementia and potential causal mechanisms
DiscussionOur findings provide evidence for genetic overlap, mostly due to apolipoprotein E (APOE), between vascular pathologies and AD dementia. The association between AD polygenic risk and late-life cognition is mediated in part via effects on vascular pathologies.

Prevalence of Chronic Cancer and No-Cancer Pain in Elderly Hospitalized Patients: Elements for the Early Assessment of Palliative Care Needs
ConclusionPain is a critical underestimated problem in elderly patients. A timely systematic evaluation of the pain would call attention to palliative care needs and reduce the negative effects of uncontrolled pain on the quality of life.

Increased risk for dementia both before and after stroke: A population-based study in women followed over 44 years
DiscussionThere is an increased risk for dementia both before and after stroke. This has implications for understanding the relation between the two disorders and for prevention of dementia and stroke.
