Case Studies in Neurocritical Care
This article presents 5 cases that illustrate just some of the conditions encountered in the daily practice of neurocritical care and exemplify some of the common diagnostic, therapeutic, and prognostic challenges facing the neurointensivist. Life-threatening medical complications after severe acute ischemic stroke, seizures and extreme agitation from autoimmune encephalitis, refractory seizures after subdural hemorrhage, neurologic and systemic complications related to aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage, and status epilepticus after cardiac arrest are discussed in this article.

Cannabimimetic Drugs: Recent Patents in Central Nervous System Disorders.
In this study, we focused on endocannabinoid mechanism of action in neuronal signaling and on cannabimimetic drug potential application in neurological disorders. Finally, novel patents on cannabis-based drugs with applicability in central nervous system disorders are highlighted, to suggest future potential therapeutic utility of derivatives of this ancient plant.

Use of the Corus ® CAD Gene Expression Test for Assessment of Obstructive Coronary Artery Disease Likelihood in Symptomatic Non-Diabetic Patients
Conclusions
The Corus CAD test has been extensively evaluated since it was first derived, including with two prospective multi-center trials. Given the scope of the deleterious effects of CAD and the considerable costs involved in diagnosing obstructive CAD, a blood test that can help in this determination is certainly valuable. The Corus CAD test promises to have an important role in this regard particularly if it continues to perform this well in larger, more diverse cohorts.

NIH-funded study supports surgery as treatment for myasthenia gravis
In a global study of myasthenia gravis, an autoimmune disease that causes muscle weakness and fatigue, researchers found that surgical removal of an organ called the thymus reduced patients ’ weakness, and their need for immunosuppressive drugs. The study, published in the New England Journal of Medicine, was partially funded by the National Institutes of Health.

028 Psychiatric and neurological disorders are associated with bullous pemphigoid – nationwide Finnish Care Register study
Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune blistering skin disease of the elderly with increasing incidence. BP has been shown to be associated with neurological disorders. So far, it has not been exactly established, for example, what subtypes of dementia and stroke are associated with BP, and what is the temporal relation between these diseases. Also, the association between BP and psychiatric disorders has remained controversial in previous studies. To answer these questions, we conducted a retrospective nationwide study using the statutory Finnish Care Register diagnoses between 1987 and 2013.

Bullous pemphigoid and its association with neurological diseases: a systematic review and meta ‐analysis
This study aimed to investigate if patients with BP have significantly higher risks for neurological disorders, compared to controls. A comprehensive search was performed using MEDLINE, EMBASE and Cochrane library databases. Case–control and cohort studies that assessed the relationship between BP and neurological diseases were included. Characteristics and pharmacodynamics of severe neuroinflammation in a child with neurolupus
We describe a child with extensive peripheral and CNS manifestations and multiorgan involvement. Multiple cellular and cytokine/chemokine markers indicated profound neuroinflammation with some components responsive, others resistant, to 3-agent immunotherapy.

Gum disease bug linked to rheumatoid arthritis
Conclusions
This research aimed to investigate a possible bacterial origin of rheumatoid arthritis and found one potential candidate – Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans (Aα). It seems these bacteria could cause the high levels of citrullinated proteins which are known to trigger an immune reaction in people with rheumatoid arthritis.

Neurodegenerative disorders, bullous pemphigoid and psoriasis: a comparative study in ethnic Poles indicates that Parkinson's disease is more relevant to bullous pemphigoid.
CONCLUSIONS: Thus, regarding population aging and increasing incidence and prevalence of BP corresponding with that phenomenon in various ethnicities, it appears justified to expand studies of a possible immunopathogenic relationship, appearing to be PD-related, between BP and ND.
