Different impact of aspirin on renal progression in patients with predialysis advanced chronic kidney disease with or without previous stroke.
CONCLUSIONS: There was no significant benefit in preventing ischemic stroke in the patients with advanced CKD who received aspirin therapy. Furthermore, the use of aspirin was associated with the risk of renal failure in the patients with advanced CKD without previous stroke. PMID: 27884500 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Increased stroke risk among patients with open-angle glaucoma: a 10-year follow-up cohort study.
CONCLUSIONS: Patients who were diagnosed with OAG were more likely to experience subsequent stroke than comparison group without OAG, and the risk was greater for older adults and males. PMID: 28729368 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Unplanned readmission after carotid stenting versus endarterectomy: analysis of the United States Nationwide Readmissions Database
Conclusions Readmission is not uncommon after carotid revascularization, occurs more often after CAS, and is predicted by baseline factors and by preventable adverse events at initial admission.

Risk of subsequent health disorders among living kidney donors
Few studies have investigated the risk of physiological sequelae in living kidney donors (KDs). We conducted a population-based cohort study using the National Health Insurance Research Database of Taiwan, which covers more than 99% of citizens. We comprehensively investigated the risk of medical disorders after kidney donation in living KDs using a maximum follow-up of 13 years. From January 1997 to December 2010, 1081 living KDs and 1082 age- and sex-matched non-KDs were eligible. Primary outcomes comprised end-stage renal disease, chronic kidney disease, stroke, cancer, acute myocardial infarction, acute renal failure ...

Adverse outcomes after major surgery in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a nationwide population-based study
Conclusions SLE significantly increased the risks of surgical patients for overall major complications and mortality after major surgery. Our findings demonstrated the need for integrated care and revised protocols for perioperative management to improve outcomes for surgical patients with SLE.

Outcomes After Non-neurological Surgery in Patients With Parkinson's Disease: A Nationwide Matched Cohort Study
This study showed increased postoperative complications and mortality in patients with PD. Our findings suggest that revision of postoperative care protocols for this population is urgently needed.

Free Tissue Transfers for Head and Neck Reconstruction in Patients with End-Stage Renal Disease on Dialysis: Analysis of Outcomes Using the Taiwan National Health Insurance Research Database
Conclusion Despite greater preoperative risk factors, patients with renal failure on hemodialysis do not appear to have a higher rate of free flap failure following head and neck reconstruction. However, other complications can be minimized by optimizing patient's medical condition to succeed with this reconstructive effort. IJERPH, Vol. 16, Pages 4432: Previous Use of Mammography as a Proxy for General Health Checks in Association with Better Outcomes after Major Surgeries
In conclusion, preoperative use of mammography was strongly associated with fewer perioperative complications and less in-hospital mortality after major surgeries. The evidence provided by this study justifies the implementation of preoperative health checks in clinical practice.

Surveillance for Sickle Cell Disease - Sickle Cell Data Collection Program, Two States, 2004-2018
This report is the first comprehensive description of CDC's efforts in collaboration with participating states to establish, maintain, and expand SCD surveillance through the SCDC program to improve health outcomes for persons living with SCD. Findings from California and Georgia analyses highlighted a need for additional SCD specialty clinics. Despite different approaches, expansion of SCDC to multiple states was possible using standardized, rigorous methods developed across all participating states for reporting on disease prevalence, health care needs and use, and deaths.PUBLIC HEALTH ACTION: Findings from surveillance ...
