Not One More Life Trusted Messenger Pilot Program
Minority populations bear a disproportionate burden of the morbidity, mortality, and prevalence of respiratory illness, including asthma, COPD, and COVID-19. To address these challenges, we engaged underserved patients using a validated respiratory health screening tool to identify at-risk patients who were offered a health coaching intervention (HCI) with a customized smartphone self-care app with virtual education.

Indoor home allergen load relates to clinical outcomes in COPD: A metagenomics approach
Conclusion: A detection through metagenomics of allergens in the home environment correlates with COPD symptoms and lung function. Indoor air is a source of allergens that potentially leads to sensitization in COPD.Funding: Singapore Ministry of Health’s National Medical Research Council under its Research Training Fellowship (NMRC/Fellowship/0049/2017) (P.Y.T) and Clinician-Scientist Individual Research Grant (MOH-000141) (S.H.C). Hospitalization Due to Asthma Exacerbation: A China Asthma Research Network (CARN) Retrospective Study in 29 Provinces Across Mainland China.
CONCLUSIONS: Despite enhanced education on asthma self-management in China during recent years, few patients were using daily controller medications before the onset of their exacerbation, indicating that more educational efforts and considerations are needed. The findings of this study may improve our understanding of hospital admission for asthma exacerbation in mainland China and provide evidence for decision-making. PMID: 32141261 [PubMed]

IL-33 Mediated Inflammation in Chronic Respiratory Diseases —Understanding the Role of the Member of IL-1 Superfamily
Conclusion Analysis of the pleiotropic effects of IL-33 on multiple immunological cells (macrophages, mastocytes), as well as neurological cells of medulla oblongata, dorsal root ganglion, antigen-induced arthritis system, carrageen, and formalin, shows that this alarmin plays curtail, yet not fully known role in mediating inflammation, especially in chronic inflammatory pulmonary diseases such as asthma, COPD, and OSA. Taken into consideration the engagement in this process, in particular of mastocytes and their secretion of CXCL2, 4, 8, and other cytokines, there is no doubt regarding the etiopathogenic role of IL-33 in...

Addressing the Impact and Unmet Needs of Nonadherence in Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease: Where Do We Go From Here?
Publication date: Available online 12 January 2018 Source:The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology: In Practice Author(s): Richard Dekhuijzen, Federico Lavorini, Omar S. Usmani, Job F.M. van Boven Nonadherence to treatment, and its associated health and economic burden, is particularly problematic in asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease management because of heterogeneous patient populations and the need for an inhaled route of drug administration. Symptom variability, comorbidities, and device switching further add to suboptimal adherence rates. As opposed to controlled clinical trials, real-life studie...
