Testosterone and Dihydrotestosterone and Incident Ischemic Stroke in Men in the Cardiovascular Health Study.
CONCLUSIONS: DHT had a nonlinear association with stroke risk in which there was an optimal DHT level associated with the lowest stroke risk. Further studies are needed to confirm these results and to clarify if there is an optimal androgen range associated with the least risk for adverse outcomes in elderly men. CHADS2 scores as a predictor of ischemic stroke after radical prostatectomy
This study assesses the predictive value of CHADS2 scores and CCIS for stroke among patients with prostate cancer. The study was conducted based on data taken from Taiwan's National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD). We identified a total of 5414 participants with nonatrial fibrillation (AF) prostate cancer diagnoses who underwent radical prostatectomy between 1997 and 2011. CHADS2 scores and CCIS were used to stratify the 5‐year ischemic stroke risk. All participants were followed from the date of enrollment until ischemic stroke, death, or the end of the 5‐year follow‐up period. The 5‐year risk of ischem...

Association of Intensive Morphine Treatment and Increased Stroke Incidence in Prostate Cancer Patients: A Population-based Nested Case-Control Study
Conclusions Intense morphine treatment may be associated with an increased stroke incidence in patients with malignancy, and the association is particularly significant for prostate cancer patients.

Risk of ischemic stroke after androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer in the Chinese population living in Hong Kong
Conclusions There was increased risk of ischemic stroke after androgen deprivation therapy for prostate cancer in the Chinese population. The risk of ischemic stroke should be considered while deciding on androgen deprivation therapy, especially in older patients with known history of hyperlipidemia.

Incidental Uptake in a Subacute Stroke on 18F-Piflufolastat PSMA PET/CT
Clin Nucl Med. 2023 Sep 7. doi: 10.1097/RLU.0000000000004798. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTProstate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) PET/CT has proven to be effective in the evaluation of prostate cancer and has become increasingly used clinically as multiple radiopharmaceuticals have become commercially available. With increasing use, incidental uptake from a variety of nononcologic processes will be encountered and considered interpretive pitfalls. We outline a case of a 71-year-old man who underwent imaging with PSMA PET/CT, which demonstrated uptake in the left parietal-temporal junction that was shown to be a subacut...

Cardiovascular outcomes among patients with castration-resistant prostate cancer: A comparative safety study using US administrative claims data
CONCLUSIONS: Our study sought to quantify risk of HHF, AMI and ischemic stroke among CRPC patients initiating AAP relative to ENZ within a national administrative claims database. Increased risk for HHF among AAP compared to ENZ users was observed. The difference in myocardial infarction did not attain statistical significance after controlling for residual bias, and no differences were noted in ischemic stroke between the two treatments. These findings confirm labeled warnings and precautions for AAP for HHF and contribute to the comparative real-world evidence on AAP relative to ENZ.PMID:36879362 | DOI:10.1002/pros.24510

Health care costs for prostate cancer patients receiving androgen deprivation therapy: treatment and adverse events.
CONCLUSIONS: The economic burden of adverse events is relevant to programs and policies from clinic to government, and that burden merits consideration in the risks and benefits of adt. PMID: 24940106 [PubMed]

Abstract 5577: Text-mining methods applied to clinical records support an association between androgen deprivation therapy and subsequent cardiometabolic disease
We conducted this study to examine the association of androgen deprivation therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer with future metabolic and cardiovascular disease. Here we utilize electronic medical record data from 1.8 million subjects in the Stanford Translational Research Integrated Database Environment. Specifically, we extracted ICD-9 diagnostic codes, patient medication lists and data from clinical notes using a previously validated text-analytics pipeline. Through this approach, we identified a cohort of 4,578 individuals with prostate cancer containing data on all defined covariates including Gleason score, age...

Cancers, Vol. 12, Pages 189: Influence of Baseline Cardiovascular Comorbidities on Mortality after Androgen Deprivation Therapy for Metastatic Prostate Cancer
ih Shao Few studies have assessed the benefits of androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) in men with metastatic prostate cancer (PC; mPC) at an old age or with major cardiovascular conditions. A retrospective cohort consisted of 3835 men with newly diagnosed mPC from the Taiwan Cancer Registry of 2008–2014. Among them, 2692 patients received only ADT in the first year after the cancer diagnosis, and 1143 patients were on watchful waiting. The inverse probability of treatment-weighted Cox model was used to estimate the effects of ADT on all-cause mortality and PC-specific mortality according to age, and the...

Long-term Cardiovascular Risks of Gonadotropin-releasing Hormone Agonists and Antagonists: A Population-based Cohort Study
CONCLUSIONS: GnRH antagonists may be associated with higher long-term, but not short-term, cardiovascular risks than agonists in Asian patients with PCa, particularly in those without known cardiovascular risk factors.PMID:37031076 | DOI:10.1016/j.clon.2023.03.014

Systematic review evaluating cardiovascular events of the 5-alpha reductase inhibitor - Dutasteride.
CONCLUSION: We did not find consistent evidence of a significant association between dutasteride therapy and the risk of cardiovascular adverse events. PMID: 23815285 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

The association between education and risk of major cardiovascular events among prostate cancer patients: a study from the Diet, Cancer and Health study.
CONCLUSIONS: The risk of acute myocardial infarction was increased in prostate cancer patients with short or medium education compared with long education. Although the educational inequality did not seem to be explained by differences in treatment, lifestyle or cardiovascular risk factors, monitoring of cardiovascular health and health promotion should involve all prostate cancer patients regardless of social position to ensure best prognosis for all.
