Contrast-enhanced ultrasound and contrast-enhanced computed tomography for differentiating mass-forming pancreatitis from pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma: a meta-analysis
CONCLUSIONS: CEUS and CECT have comparable diagnostic performance for differentiating MFP from PDAC, and should be considered as mutually complementary diagnostic tools for suspected focal pancreatic lesions.PMID:36728948 | DOI:10.1097/CM9.0000000000002300

Diagnosis and treatment of Barrett's oesophagus
Introduction Barrett's oesophagus (BO) is a common premalignant condition, which carries a risk of progression to oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Recent advances include quantifying the risk of neoplasia progression, novel diagnostic tools and development of new endoscopic techniques to treat early Barrett's cancer. Sources of data A selective search was performed on recent advances in BO and this was supplemented with guidelines from the American and British Society of Gastroenterology. Areas of agreement All cases of dysplasia should be confirmed by a second expert histopathologist. Endoscopic therapy is the preferred opti...

Republished: Symptomatic reflux disease: the present, the past and the future
The worldwide incidence of GORD and its complications is increasing along with the exponentially increasing problem of obesity. Of particular concern is the relationship between central adiposity and GORD complications, including oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Driven by progressive insight into the epidemiology and pathophysiology of GORD, the earlier belief that increased gastroesophageal reflux mainly results from one dominant mechanism has been replaced by acceptance that GORD is multifactorial. Instigating factors, such as obesity, age, genetics, pregnancy and trauma may all contribute to mechanical impairment of the oeso...

Dermatomyositis and colorectal cancer: a systematic review
ConclusionIt is of paramount importance to perform a systematic diagnostic workup for malignancy, always including colonoscopy, in DM patients, since there is a high incidence of cancer in DM patients. Surgical treatment of colorectal tumors should precede the treatment of DM, as DM will frequently regress after a successful resection of malignancy.

Generation and application of patient-derived xenograft models in pancreatic cancer research.
CONCLUSIONS: In this review, we outline the status and application of PDX models in both basic and pre-clinical pancreatic cancer researches. PDX model is one of the most appropriate pre-clinical tools that can improve the prognosis of patients with pancreatic cancer in the future. PMID: 31725451 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Rare case of metachronous tumor: Nasopharyngeal and colorectal carcinoma
Exp Ther Med. 2021 Dec;22(6):1417. doi: 10.3892/etm.2021.10852. Epub 2021 Oct 8.ABSTRACTThe study presents an unusual case of a patient with a personal history of a rectal malignant tumor in 2013, who after a period of 6 years, was diagnosed with an advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma, locally and regionally invasive. It is possible that the colorectal malignant tumor affected the development of the nasopharyngeal carcinoma, or the other way around, depending on the presence of genetic instabilities. These two types of malignant tumors share a series of genes that can influence their progression, i.e., SPINK-6 and Bcl-2. The...
