Web-based psychoeducational interventions for managing cognitive impairment –a systematic review
ConclusionWeb-based cognitive intervention programs are a new approach to rehabilitation and patient education. The evidence, although scarce, shows that web-based interventions are feasible and support subjective cognitive functioning. However, the literature to date is extremely limited and the quality of the studies is weak. More research with high-quality study designs is needed.Systematic review registrationhttps://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?RecordID=257315, identifier: CRD42021257315.

Correlation Between Intracranial Arterial Calcification and Imaging of Cerebral Small Vessel Disease
Conclusion: Intracranial artery calcification is common in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and the intracranial carotid artery is most frequently affected. Intracranial arterial calcifications might be associated with imaging markers of SVD and are highly correlated with WMHs, lacunes, and CMBs. Quantification of calcification on CT provides additional information on the pathophysiology of SVD. Intracranial arterial calcification could act as a potential marker of SVD. Introduction Atherosclerosis is a systemic vascular process that is considered a major cause of cerebrovascular and cardiovascular di...

Stroke Dysbiosis Index (SDI) in Gut Microbiome Are Associated With Brain Injury and Prognosis of Stroke
Conclusions: We developed an index to measure gut microbiota dysbiosis in stroke patients; this index was significantly correlated with patients' outcome and was causally related to outcome in a mouse model of stroke. Our model facilitates the potential clinical application of gut microbiota data in stroke and adds quantitative evidence linking the gut microbiota to stroke. Introduction Ischemic stroke imposes a heavy burden on society, with 24.9 million cases worldwide (1). Although intravenous thrombolysis and endovascular treatment greatly improve some patients' prognosis, the prognosis for most pa...

Modifiable Lifestyle Factors and Cognitive Function in Older People: A Cross-Sectional Observational Study
Conclusions: Lifestyle factors, such as physical activity, sleep, and social activity appear to be associated with cognitive function among older people. Physical activity and appropriate durations of sleep and conversation are important for cognitive function. Introduction Dementia is a major public health issue worldwide, with a serious burden for patients, caregivers, and society, as well as substantial economic impacts (1). Although the prevalence of late-life cognitive impairment and dementia are expected to increase in future, effective disease-modifying treatments are currently unavailable. Therefore, unders...

Pre-injury Comorbidities Are Associated With Functional Impairment and Post-concussive Symptoms at 3- and 6-Months After Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: A TRACK-TBI Study
Conclusions: Pre-injury psychiatric and pre-injury headache/migraine symptoms are risk factors for worse functional and post-concussive outcomes at 3- and 6-months post-mTBI. mTBI patients presenting to acute care should be evaluated for psychiatric and headache/migraine history, with lower thresholds for providing TBI education/resources, surveillance, and follow-up/referrals. Clinical Trial Registration: www.ClinicalTrials.gov, identifier NCT01565551. Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. In 2013 ~2.8 million TBI cases were recorded an...

Novel quantitative imaging markers for understanding cognitive reserve in subdural hematoma (SDH) patients (P5.037)
Conclusions:Quantitative imaging can be used to predict functional outcomes in patients with intracranial hemorrhages. As we continue enrollment we hope to generate meaningful novel markers of cognitive reserve and recovery in patients with intracranial hemorrhages and other pathologies like acute stroke and brain tumors.Disclosure: Dr. Dangayach has nothing to disclose. A cross-sectional evaluation of home health service in patients with chronic neurologic diseases in a province of Turkey
In this study, we aimed to compare patients’ characteristics, comorbid risk factors, medical supplies, and caregivers’ demographics between stroke patients and patients with other chronic neurological diseases receiving home health services. In our study, between November 2013 and March 2014, chronic neurological disease (CND) patients having home health services were enrolled in the study. During patient visits, patients were assessed by the questionnaire comprising the modified Rankin scale (mRS), Barthel index, Zarit caregiver burden scale, and mini nutritional assessment (MNA). Stroke patients were classified as Gr...

New Windows into the Brain: Technological Advances in Detecting and Treating Neurological Disorders (P4.185)
CONCLUSIONS • Visualase is a new MRI-guided laser technology often used to treat hard-to-reach and otherwise inoperable brain and spine tumors. The procedure can be performed while a patient is awake and requires only one stitch to close the surgical site. The laser thermal ablation technique destroys lesions and also has proven to be effective for epilepsy patients. • The minimally invasive NICO BrainPath - detailed fiber-tracking combined with precise image-guidance - effectively treats subcortical and deep brain lesions as never before. The procedure is part of the Six Pillar Approach. The presenter is one of ...
