Challenges in managing upper gastrointestinal bleeding secondary to primary squamous cell carcinoma of the pancreas: a case report and literature review
CONCLUSIONS: This is the first reported Australian case of pancreatic SCC presenting with upper gastrointestinal bleeding and new-onset diabetes mellitus. Patients with unresectable disease require a multidisciplinary approach to manage complications and improve symptom control. However, there are no standard treatment guidelines and future research is needed in this regard.PMID:37171715 | DOI:10.1186/s40792-023-01663-2

Imaging of Neck Nodes in Head and Neck Cancers - a Comprehensive Update
Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol). 2023 Mar 27:S0936-6555(23)00119-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clon.2023.03.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical lymph node metastases from head and neck squamous cell cancers significantly reduce disease-free survival and worsen overall prognosis and, hence, deserve more aggressive management and follow-up. As per the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging manual, extranodal extension, especially in human papillomavirus-negative cancers, has been incorporated in staging as it is important in deciding management and significantly impacts the outcome of head and neck squamous ...

Prediction Models for Mediastinal Metastasis and its Detection by Endobronchial Ultrasound-Guided Transbronchial Needle Aspiration in Potentially Operable Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer - A Prospective Study
Chest. 2023 Apr 3:S0012-3692(23)00469-5. doi: 10.1016/j.chest.2023.03.041. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTBACKGROUND: Prediction models for mediastinal metastasis and its detection by endobronchial ultrasound guided transbronchial needle aspiration (EBUS-TBNA) have not been developed using a prospective cohort of potentially operable non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.RESEARCH QUESTION: Can mediastinal metastasis and its detection by EBUS-TBNA be predicted with prediction models in NSCLC?STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: For the prospective development cohort, 589 potentially operable NSCLC patients were evaluated (July 20...

Comparison of Preoperative DOI Estimation in Oral Tongue Cancer With cN0 Disease
CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that DOI assessment tools measured had similar sensitivity and specificity in stratifying patients with DOI ≥4 mm, with no statistically superior diagnostic test. Our results support the need for additional research into nodal disease prediction and continued refinement of ND decisions with respect to DOI.PMID:36861847 | DOI:10.1002/ohn.314

Research progress of physical transdermal enhancement techniques in tumor therapy
Chem Commun (Camb). 2023 Feb 23. doi: 10.1039/d2cc06219d. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe advancement and popularity of transdermal drug delivery (TDD) based on the physical transdermal enhancement technique (PTET) has opened a new paradigm for local tumor treatment. The drug can be directly delivered to the tumor site through the skin, thus avoiding the toxic side effects caused by the first-pass effect and achieving high patient compliance. Further development of PTETs has provided many options for antitumor drugs and laid the foundation for future applications of wearable closed-loop targeting drug delivery systems. I...

Cancers, Vol. 15, Pages 896: Intraoperative Imaging Techniques to Improve Surgical Resection Margins of Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer: A Comprehensive Review of Current Literature
This study reviews the available literature on intraoperative techniques to improve resection margins for OPSCCs. A literature search was performed in Embase, PubMed, and Cochrane. Narrow band imaging (NBI), high-resolution microendoscopic imaging, confocal laser endomicroscopy, frozen section analysis (FSA), ultrasound (US), computed tomography scan (CT), (auto) fluorescence imaging (FI), and augmented reality (AR) have all been used for OPSCC. NBI, FSA, and US are most commonly used and increase the rate of negative margins. Other techniques will become available in the future, of which fluorescence imaging has high pote...

High resolution dermal ultrasound (US) combined with superficial radiation therapy (SRT) versus non-image guided SRT or external beam radiotherapy (XRT) in early-stage epithelial cancer: a comparison of studies
CONCLUSIONS: Results of US-SRT in local control were statistically significantly superior across the board versus non-image-guided radiation modalities in treatment of epithelial NMSC and should be considered a new gold standard for treatment of early-stage cutaneous BCC, SCC, and SCCIS.PMID:36707774 | DOI:10.1186/s12885-023-10577-z
