Encephalitis in a patient with hypopharynx cancer treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors and radiotherapy: a case report and review of the literature
J Cancer Res Clin Oncol. 2023 Sep 7. doi: 10.1007/s00432-023-05328-3. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHypopharyngeal cancer (HPC) has one of the most unfavorable prognoses among head and neck squamous cell carcinomas. Immunotherapy in combination with chemotherapy, the same as conventional induction chemotherapy, has emerged as a vital part of the induction therapy protocol for HPC. Meanwhile, the incidence of immune-related adverse events is increasing. In this light, we present the first reported case of immune-associated encephalitis in a patient with hypopharyngeal cancer treated with Camrelizumab (a PD-1 inhibitor). Aft...

Diffusion-weighted imaging in the assessment of cervical cancer: comparison of reduced field-of-view diffusion-weighted imaging and conventional techniques
CONCLUSION: Compared with f-FOV DWI, r-FOV DWI might provide clearer imaging, fewer artifacts, less distortion, and higher image quality for the diagnosis of CC and might assist in the detection of CC.PMID:37545177 | DOI:10.1177/02841851231183870

Chronic oxidative stress adaptation in head and neck cancer cells generates slow-cyclers with decreased tumour growth in vivo
CONCLUSIONS: Clinically, combination treatments together with cetuximab, an EGFR inhibitor, may overcome acquired oxidative stress resistance in HNC.PMID:37460712 | DOI:10.1038/s41416-023-02343-6

Brain Metastasis Incidence and Patterns of Presentation After Definitive Treatment of Locally Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Potential Argument for Brain Magnetic Resonance Imaging Surveillance
CONCLUSIONS: We identified a high rate of BMs, particularly in LC/NOS and adenocarcinoma histology NSCLC. The majority were symptomatic. These results provide rationale for post-CRT magnetic resonance imaging brain surveillance for patients at high risk of BM.PMID:37273925 | PMC:PMC10238260 | DOI:10.1016/j.adro.2022.101058

Diagnostic performance of FDG PET/MRI for cervical lymph node metastasis in patients with clinically N0 head and neck cancer
CONCLUSIONS: PET/MRI is more sensitive and has a higher NPV compared to MRI alone, while its sensitivity was found to be comparable to that of PET. In addition, with its ability to detect pathological N0 patients, PET/MRI may significantly decrease the number of unnecessary neck dissections.PMID:37259734 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202305_32459

Longitudinal diffusion and volumetric kinetics of head and neck cancer magnetic resonance on a 1.5T MR-Linear accelerator hybrid system: A prospective R-IDEAL Stage 2a imaging biomarker characterization/ pre-qualification study
CONCLUSION: Assessment of ADC kinetics at regular intervals throughout RT seems to be correlated with RT response. Further studies with larger cohorts and multi-institutional data are needed for validation of ΔADC as a model for prediction of response to RT.PMID:37205359 | PMC:PMC10187456 | DOI:10.1101/2023.05.04.23289527

A case of coexistent poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma), usual-type adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the cervix
Med Mol Morphol. 2023 May 2. doi: 10.1007/s00795-023-00354-z. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTPoorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma) of the cervix is extremely rare, accounting for 1-2% of all cervical cancers. Herein, we report a case with coexistent poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma (glassy cell carcinoma), "usual-type" adenocarcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma in situ of the cervix. A female patient in her 60 s was referred to our hospital and diagnosed with poorly differentiated adenosquamous carcinoma based on cervical cytology and biopsy. The tumor was classified as clinical...

Imaging of Neck Nodes in Head and Neck Cancers - a Comprehensive Update
Clin Oncol (R Coll Radiol). 2023 Mar 27:S0936-6555(23)00119-X. doi: 10.1016/j.clon.2023.03.012. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCervical lymph node metastases from head and neck squamous cell cancers significantly reduce disease-free survival and worsen overall prognosis and, hence, deserve more aggressive management and follow-up. As per the eighth edition of the American Joint Committee on Cancer staging manual, extranodal extension, especially in human papillomavirus-negative cancers, has been incorporated in staging as it is important in deciding management and significantly impacts the outcome of head and neck squamous ...

Estimated dose to site of loco-regional recurrence after radiotherapy in anal cancer using point of origin methods
CONCLUSION: The majority of LLRs were located within the high dose volume indicating radioresistance as the primary cause of recurrence in anal cancer. No difference between the use of COM and obs-PO was evident.PMID:36817982 | PMC:PMC9929855 | DOI:10.1016/j.phro.2023.100424

Multi-parametric MRI without artificial erection for preoperative assessment of primary penile carcinoma: A pilot study on the correlation between imaging and histopathological findings
CONCLUSIONS: Good concordance was observed between MRI and histopathological findings. Our initial findings indicate that non-erectile mpMRI is useful in preoperative assessment of primary penile SCC.PMID:36793771 | PMC:PMC9922909 | DOI:10.1016/j.ejro.2023.100478

Primary squamous cell carcinoma of the ovary accompanied by transition of a mucinous borderline ovarian tumor
This report describes a woman with a rare primary squamous cell carcinoma of the ovary accompanied by transition of a mucinous borderline ovarian tumor. A woman in her late 40s was referred for abdominal discomfort, which worsened during defecation. Pelvic magnetic resonance imaging showed a multiloculated cystic lesion in the left adnexa measuring approximately 7.5 × 9.5 × 7.0 cm. An intraoperatively obtained frozen biopsy sample of the mass in the left ovary was positive for malignancy, resulting in a surgical staging operation. The tumor was composed of squamous cell carcinoma and mucinous borderline tumor. There was ...

Surgical treatment and prognosis of posteriorly invading oral cancer: Potential clinical significance of pterygomandibular raphe
CONCLUSION: OSCCs with posterior invasion beyond the PMR showed a poor treatment outcome and, therefore, should be treated with caution. The initial surgery is especially important and must ensure local control. This study indicates that the PMR is an important criterion for surgical method determination and that invasion beyond the PMR is a predictor of local recurrence and poor prognosis.PMID:36643228 | PMC:PMC9831833 | DOI:10.1016/j.jds.2022.07.008
