Advances in pharmacotherapy for head and neck cancer
Expert Opin Pharmacother. 2021 Jun 30:1-12. doi: 10.1080/14656566.2021.1948011. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntroduction: Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide and is a leading cause for cancer-related mortality. This review attempts to give a comprehensive summary of the recent developments in pharmacotherapeutic options for locally advanced/metastatic HNSCC.Areas covered: In this review, the authors conducted a systematic literature search for published articles on HNSCC in the PubMed database using the keywords 'head and neck squamous cell carcinoma or HNSCC,' 'targe...

Squamous Cell Carcinoma Arising from Perianal Buschke-Lowenstein Tumor (Giant Condyloma Acuminatum): Comprehensive Literature Review
ConclusionGiant condyloma acuminatum is a rare variant of anogenital warts. It is known that this tumor, which is mostly thought to be benign, has a high potential for local recurrence and transformation into invasive cancer. Therefore, it is vital that the tumor is resected with clean surgical margins, even if it looks benign, and that aggressive treatment options are not avoided when necessary.

Expert Consensus on the Use of Prognostic Gene Expression Profiling Tests for the Management of Cutaneous Melanoma: Consensus from the Skin Cancer Prevention Working Group
ConclusionGEP tests provide additional, reproducible information for dermatologists to consider within the larger framework of the eighth edition of the AJCC and NCCN cutaneous melanoma guidelines when counseling regarding prognosis and when considering a sentinel lymph node biopsy.

Insights from Mendelian randomization and genetic correlation analyses into the relationship between endometriosis and its comorbidities
AbstractBACKGROUNDEndometriosis remains a poorly understood disease, despite its high prevalence and debilitating symptoms. The overlap in symptoms and the increased risk of multiple other traits in women with endometriosis is becoming increasingly apparent through epidemiological data. Genetic studies offer a method of investigating these comorbid relationships through the assessment of causal relationships with Mendelian randomization (MR), as well as identification of shared genetic variants and genes involved across traits. This has the capacity to identify risk factors for endometriosis as well as provide insight into...

Identification of a Gene Prognostic Signature for Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma by RNA Sequencing and Bioinformatics
CONCLUSIONS: We successfully constructed a prognostic signature to predict prognosis and identified five candidate genes associated with the OS of OSCC patients that are potential tumor biomarkers and targets in OSCC.PMID:33869632 | PMC:PMC8032525 | DOI:10.1155/2021/6657767

Prognostic value of programmed cell death ligand-1 expression in the tumor-infiltrating immune cells of patients with lung cancer: A meta-analysis
Mol Clin Oncol. 2021 Aug;15(2):167. doi: 10.3892/mco.2021.2329. Epub 2021 Jun 18.ABSTRACTSeveral studies have investigated the prognostic significance of programmed cell death ligand 1 (PD-L1)-positive expression in the tumor cells (TC) of patients with lung cancer. However, tumor-infiltrating immune cell (TIIC)-based PD-L1 expression and its prognostic value remain controversial. The present meta-analysis was performed on 11 studies comprising 2,685 patients, which were identified by a systematic search on the PubMed, PMC, Web of Science and Embase databases. The databases were searched for published articles up to Octobe...

Guillain-Barr é Syndrome-Like Polyneuropathy Associated with Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors: A Systematic Review of 33 Cases
Biomed Res Int. 2021 Aug 19;2021:9800488. doi: 10.1155/2021/9800488. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTImmune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have been increasingly used in the treatment of various types of tumors with favorable results. But these treatments also led to a variety of immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Neurological irAEs such as Guillain-Barré Syndrome are rare and may have serious consequences once they occur. A systematic literature search was performed in PubMed and Embase for all case reports of GBS associated with ICIs published in English reporting on human beings from 1990 up to date. A total of 30 case repo...

The Gut Microbiome and Cancer Immunotherapy: Can We Use the Gut Microbiome as a Predictive Biomarker for Clinical Response in Cancer Immunotherapy?
Conclusions: Overall, significant differences in the diversity and composition of the gut microbiome were identified in ICIs responders and non-responders. Our findings provide new insights into the value of assessing the gut microbiome in immunotherapy. Further robust randomized controlled trials (RCTs) examining the modulatory effects of the gut microbiome and FMT on ICIs in patients not responding to immunotherapy are warranted.PMID:34638308 | PMC:PMC8508052 | DOI:10.3390/cancers13194824

Predictive Role of Tumor-Stroma Ratio for Survival of Patients With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer: A Meta-Analysis
Conclusion: Tumor TSR could be used as a predictor of survival in patients with NSCLC. The relative proportion of patients with SCC/AC in the included NSCLC patients may be an important determinant for the association between TSR and survival in NSCLC. Stroma richness may be a predictor of poor survival in patients with lung SCC, but a predictor of better survival in patients with lung AC.PMID:35132307 | PMC:PMC8817052 | DOI:10.3389/pore.2021.1610021
