Can active sun exposure decrease the risk of giant cell arteritis and polymyalgia rheumatica in women?
CONCLUSION: Active sun exposure did not affect the risk of developing GCA or PMR in women in a cohort with restricted latitudinal variability.PMID:37675201 | PMC:PMC10477307 | DOI:10.1093/rap/rkad071

Associations between cardiorespiratory fitness in youth and the incidence of site-specific cancer in men: a cohort study with register linkage
CONCLUSION: We report a number of protective associations between higher CRF in healthy young men and the subsequent hazard of site-specific cancers. These results have implications for public health policymaking, strengthening the incentive to promote health through improving CRF in youth.PMID:37582636 | DOI:10.1136/bjsports-2022-106617

Prognostic Significance of Sentinel Lymph Node Status in Thick Primary Melanomas ( & gt; 4 mm)
CONCLUSION: Sentinel lymph node status gives important prognostic information also for patients with thick (> 4 mm) melanomas, and the authors thus recommend that clinical guidelines be updated to reflect this.PMID:37574516 | DOI:10.1245/s10434-023-14050-w

A systematic review of cancer risk among users of smokeless tobacco (Swedish snus) exclusively, compared with no use of tobacco
Int J Cancer. 2023 Jul 21. doi: 10.1002/ijc.34643. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe main objective of this systematic review was to assess cancer risk, and mortality after cancer diagnosis, for exclusive users of Swedish snus, compared with non-users of tobacco. We followed international standards for systematic reviews and graded our confidence in the risk estimates using the GRADE approach. Our search gave 2450 articles, of which 67 were assessed in full text against our inclusion criteria. Of these, 14 cohort-studies and one case-control study were included in the review. The studies investigated risk of cancer in the ...

Increasing melanoma incidence and survival trend shifts with improved melanoma-specific survival between 1990 and 2020 in Sweden
CONCLUSIONS: The results are emphasizing the improved MSS among both men and women in Sweden. The MSS improvements, specifically for the period 2011-2020, may be correlated to the introduction of new systemic therapies and are here shown for the first time in detail for Sweden.PMID:37463416 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljad244

KRAS G12C Mutant Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Linked to Female Sex and High Risk of CNS Metastasis: Population-based Demographics and Survival Data From the National Swedish Lung Cancer Registry
CONCLUSION: The KRAS p.G12C variant is a prevalent targetable driver in Sweden and significantly associated with female sex and presence of CNS metastasis. We show novel survival effects linked to KRAS p.G12C mutations in these subgroups with implications for clinical practice.PMID:37296038 | DOI:10.1016/j.cllc.2023.05.002

Use of 5 α-reductase inhibitors and survival of oesophageal and gastric cancer in a nationwide Swedish cohort study
CONCLUSION: This study did not support the hypothesis of improved survival among users of 5-ARIs after curatively intended treatment for oesophago-gastric cancer.PMID:37216488 | DOI:10.1080/0284186X.2023.2214681
