Case Report: Case Series of Kocuria palustris Bacteremia among Immunocompromised Patients
We present three cases of bacteremia in immunocompromised patients admitted to our hospital; one patient was receiving chemotherapy for gall bladder carcinoma, the second was on maintenance hemodialysis for chronic kidney disease, and the third was receiving chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia. All three patients presented with a fever in the setting of neutropenia during the course of treatment with chemotherapy (in Cases 1 and 3) or hemodialysis (in Case 2). The blood culture samples of all the patients had pure isolates of Kocuria species K. palustris, which was identified by matrix assisted laser desorption ionisat...

Malignant hypercalcemia revealing a diffuse large B ‐cell lymphoma in a patient with a previous diagnosis of chronic myelomonocytic leukemia: An uncommon hematological coexistence
Key Clinical MessageA 76-year-old patient previously admitted to the cardiology department for replacement of a right ventricular lead on a double-chamber pacemaker was admitted to the internal medicine department 15  days after for bronchopneumopathy. His past medical history was relevant for Type 2 diabetes mellitus, heart failure due to dilated hypokinetic heart disease, transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML-0) diagnosed in 2021. Twenty-four hours after ad mission, the patient's general condition deteriorated abruptly, with the onset of drowsiness and psychomotor ret...

Polyamidoamine Dendrimers Functionalized with ZnO-Chitosan Nanoparticles as an Efficient Surface for L-asparaginase Immobilization
In this study, the third-generation polyamidoamine dendrimer was functionalized with a 5-amino-1H-tetrazole heterocycle to load the synthesis enzyme and its surface groups. Then, chitosan was attached to the dendrimer by a suitable linker, and finally, zinc oxide nanoparticles were inserted into dendrimer cavities to increase loading. FTIR, FESEM, TEM, and DLS analysis showed that this new dendrimer has specific branches, and ZnO nanoparticles were spread between the branches and connected with the branches and chitosan biopolymer. Also proved the presence of stabilized L-asparaginase enzyme and ZnO nanoparticles in the de...

SLED1 Promoting Cell Proliferation and Inhibiting Apoptosis in Acute Myeloid Leukemia: a Study
This study further aimed to determine its role in the regulation of AML progression and its action as a potential biomarker for better prognosis. AML microarray profiles GSE97485 and probe annotation from the Gene Expression Omnibus (GEO) database from the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) were detected using the GEO2R tool ( http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo/geo2r/ ). The expression of AML was downloaded from the TCGA database ( http://cancergenome.nih.gov/ ). The statistical analysis of the database was processed with R software. Bioinformatic analysis found that lncRNA SLED1 is highly expressed in AML p...

Lactic acidosis after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation potentially related to letermovir
Br J Clin Pharmacol. 2023 Feb 7. doi: 10.1111/bcp.15686. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTA 53-year-old woman with a history of acute myeloid leukemia received a second allogenic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) and was prescribed, among other medications, acyclovir and letermovir (480 mg daily oral dose) for prophylaxis of respectively herpes simplex and cytomegalovirus infection. The patient was admitted in the intensive care unit (ICU) for dyspnoea and oliguria. Laboratory investigations revealed acute kidney injury, but also a severe and progressive lactic acidosis. Liver function tests were within normal range. ...

Pharmacokinetics of ibrutinib in a patient with chronic lymphocytic leukemia on hemodialysis
Clin Nephrol. 2022 Oct 24. doi: 10.5414/CN110859. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIbrutinib, an oral Bruton's tyrosine kinase inhibitor, is a key drug for the treatment of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). It is primarily metabolized by cytochrome P450 3A. However, there are no data on the pharmacokinetics of ibrutinib in patients with severe renal impairment or on hemodialysis (HD). We evaluated the pharmacokinetics of ibrutinib in a patient with CLL undergoing HD. An 84-year-old man on HD was diagnosed with CLL and was started on ibrutinib 140 mg daily. The second day of ibrutinib administration was an HD day, and its pl...

Targeted Venetoclax Therapy in t(11;14) Multiple Myeloma: Real World Data From Seven Hungarian Centers
Pathol Oncol Res. 2022 Feb 28;28:1610276. doi: 10.3389/pore.2022.1610276. eCollection 2022.ABSTRACTDespite the introduction of novel agents, multiple myeloma remains incurable for most patients, necessitating further therapeutic options. Venetoclax, a selective BCL-2 inhibitor, had shown promising results in patients with translocation t(11;14), but questions remain open about its optimal use. We have contacted all Hungarian haematology centers for their experience treating t(11;14) myeloma patients with venetoclax. 58 patients were reported. 37 received venetoclax in the relapsed/refractory setting with few or no other th...
