Screening for cervical cancer, human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination
Magy Onkol. 2022 Dec 31;66(4):325-330. Epub 2022 Aug 21.ABSTRACTCervical cancer screening is widely used worldwide, which led to a significant decrease both in incidence and mortality of the disease in several countries. Cervical cancer screening was introduced in the 1950s as opportunistic method for secondary prevention of cervical cancer in Hungary, later, however, became a part of National Immunization Program. Detection of human papillomavirus (HPV) is the first-line method of screening in several countries before cytology, which has been proposed to be introduced in Hungary by several groups. The incidence and mortal...

The efficacy of human papillomavirus prophylactic vaccination after conization in preventing cervical intraepithelial neoplasia recurrence: A prospective observational study in China
Eur J Obstet Gynecol Reprod Biol. 2023 Apr 19;286:10-15. doi: 10.1016/j.ejogrb.2023.04.014. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHigh-risk human papillomavirus (hrHPV) infection is the cause of most cervical cancers. Since therapeutic vaccines are not yet available for clinical practice, the administration of HPV prophylactic vaccines in patients with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) arouses great interest and its value after excisional treatment of CIN remains unclear. We conducted this prospective cohort study to evaluate the impact of HPV prophylactic vaccination on preventing women from subsequent infection and cervic...

Parental knowledge, views, and perceptions of human papilloma virus infection and vaccination-cross-sectional descriptive study
CONCLUSION: Parents in the present study demonstrated a substantial lack of knowledge about HPV infection and vaccination, which may necessitate the establishment of national awareness campaigns.PMID:37122659 | PMC:PMC10131950 | DOI:10.4103/jfmpc.jfmpc_1673_22

Gene expression profiling of peripheral blood mononuclear cells from women with cervical lesions reveals new markers of cancer
Oncol Rep. 2023 Jun;49(6):118. doi: 10.3892/or.2023.8555. Epub 2023 Apr 28.ABSTRACTCervical cancer (CC) is a multifactorial disease of which human papillomavirus (HPV) is the main etiological agent. Despite cervical Pap smear screening and anti‑HPV vaccination, CC remains a major public health issue. Identification of specific gene expression signatures in the blood could allow better insight into the immune response of CC and could provide valuable information for the development of novel biomarkers. The present study performed a transcriptomic analysis of peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from Senegalese patie...

Phase II Trial of MEDI0457 and Durvalumab for Patients With Recurrent/Metastatic Human Papillomavirus-Associated Cancers
CONCLUSIONS: The combination of MEDI0457 and durvalumab demonstrated acceptable safety and tolerability in patients with advanced HPV-16/18 cancers. The low ORR among patients with cervical cancer led to study discontinuation despite a clinically meaningful disease control rate.PMID:37104874 | DOI:10.1093/oncolo/oyad085

Public School Adolescents Had Increased Odds of Being Willing to Uptake HPV Vaccinations Owing to Sociodemographic and Healthcare Access Features in Bahir Dar City, Ethiopia
CONCLUSION: Adolescent girls in public primary schools were more likely to uptake HPV vaccination than those in private provided that income status and socioeconomic factors became less important. Willingness to uptake HPV vaccination was found to be low as compared to the WHO target for Ethiopian context and was influenced by maternal education status, perceived barriers, cues to action, and self-efficacy. As a result, greater emphasis should be placed on implementing a school-based and maternal educational program on cervical cancer prevention and control focusing on the behavioral contexts.PMID:37090189 | PMC:PMC1011553...

Etiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of human papilloma virus-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma
Int J Clin Oncol. 2023 Apr 24. doi: 10.1007/s10147-023-02336-8. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTClassical oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) caused by alcohol consumption and smoking and HPV-associated OPSCC caused by human papillomavirus (HPV) infection have different etiologies, incidences, and prognoses. Therefore, the 8th American Joint committee on Cancer (AJCC) and Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) TNM classifications propose distinguishing HPV-associated OPSCC from classical OPSCC and classifying it as an independent disease. Therefore, this review provides an overview of HPV-associated OPSCC fr...

Therapeutic efficacy of a VSV-GP-based human papilloma virus vaccine in a murine cancer model
In this study, we generated a live attenuated cancer vaccine based on the chimeric vesicular stomatitis virus VSV-GP, which has previously proven to be a potent vaccine vector and oncolytic virus. Genes at an earlier position in the genome more to the 3' end are expressed stronger compared to genes located further downstream. By inserting an HPV16-derived antigen cassette consisting of E2, E6 and E7 into VSV-GP either at first (HPVp1) or fifth (HPVp5) position in VSV-GP's genome we aimed to analyze the effect of vaccine antigen position and consequently expression level on viral fitness, immunogenicity, and anti-tumoral ef...

Cervical human papillomavirus prevalence according to socioeconomic and demographic characteristics in a large Danish screening population
CONCLUSIONS: We found slightly higher hrHPV prevalences in women with basic education, low income and unemployment. The differences largely disappeared when taking into account marital status as a potential proxy for sexual behaviour. Our findings support a need for targeted information on safe sexual practices and promoting socioeconomic equality in HPV vaccination and cervical cancer screening participation.PMID:37078420 | DOI:10.1177/14034948231168297

Risk Factors and Trends for HPV-Associated Subsequent Malignant Neoplasms among Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Survivors
CONCLUSIONS: HPV-SMN in AYA survivors are driven by oropharyngeal cancers despite temporal declines in oropharyngeal-SMN. Hispanic survivors are at risk for cervical-SMN relative to the general population.IMPACT: Encouraging HPV vaccination and cervical and oral cancer screenings may reduce HPV-SMN burden among AYA survivors.PMID:37071501 | DOI:10.1158/1055-9965.EPI-22-0826

Knowledge and attitudes towards cervical cancer prevention among women in Khartoum state, Sudan
CONCLUSION: This study revealed that the participant's knowledge and attitudes levels are mainly driven by their occupation, educational level, family income, and marital status altogether. This underscores the need for a countrywide community engagement campaign through health education and raising awareness sessions, and massive social media to sensitize the community and healthcare providers about the risk of cervical cancer and the available prevention and control measures.PMID:37070544 | DOI:10.1177/17455057231166286
