Factors associated with the performance of primary dental health care in Brazil: A multilevel approach
This study evaluated the factors associated with the performance of Brazilian Oral Health Teams (OHTs). This is multilevel research that used data from 12,386 Brazilian OHTs in 2012. The OHTs performance was estimated in previous research by using Item Response Theory model, which employed 20 questions about dental procedures in Primary Care. The first level covariates were based on OHTs procedures such as: the record of pregnant woman dental appointment, provision of dentistry home care, dental appointments scheduled choices, and OHTs in charge for more than 5000 individuals. Moreover, the use of guidelines was accessed ...

The First Reported Pediatric Case of Primary Myoepithelial Carcinoma Involving the Whole Lung: Surgical Radical Treatment and Prosthesis Implant
European J Pediatr Surg Rep 2020; 08: e52-e55 DOI: 10.1055/s-0040-1713766Primary myoepithelial carcinoma of the lung (PMC-L) arising from the bronchial glands in lower respiratory tract is exceedingly rare. Thus far, few cases in adults and only one in a pediatric patient have been recorded. To our knowledge, this is the first report of PMC-L successfully removed in a child, focusing on the importance of multidisciplinary primary surgery for the treatment of this tumor. A 7-year-old girl was admitted for persistent cough and fever; she was unresponsive to oral antibiotics. Chest radiography showed loss of volume of left lu...

Multidisciplinary and Comprehensive Chinese Medicine for Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Patients: A Retrospective Study of 855 Cases
ConclusionsFemale patients have lower progression risk and better prognoses than male patients, younger patients have higher progression risk but better long-term prognoses than the elderlys, and patients with lower performance status scores are at lower risk for progression and have better prognoses. Comprehensive CM treatments could significantly reduce progression risk, improve prognosis, and prolong survival time for patients with advanced NSCLC. This treatment mode offers additional advantages over supportive care alone.

Impact of smoking in patients with pancreatic cancer receiving a PET scan. S. Gresens, E. Braun, A.M. Voslar; Nuclear Medicine, Froedtert Hospital, Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Conclusions: There is no evidence supporting a statistical association between smoking and the development of pancreatic cancer. While the majority of selected patients were smokers, it’s important to include that smoking does not guarantee the development of pancreatic cancer. This concludes that although smoking might have been a factor in developing pancreatic cancer, there are too many outside variables not examined that contribute to pancreatic cancer to solidify a link between smoking and pancreatic cancer.

Pilot study of vincristine, oral irinotecan, and temozolomide (VOIT regimen) combined with bevacizumab in pediatric patients with recurrent solid tumors or brain tumors
ConclusionsReducing temozolomide from 150 to 100 mg/m2/day improved tolerability, and treatment with this lower temozolomide dose was feasible and convenient as outpatient therapy. Although responses were seen in Ewing sarcoma, the benefit of adding bevacizumab remains unclear. Pediatr Blood Cancer 2013;9999:XX–XX. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Phase I study of vinblastine and sirolimus in pediatric patients with recurrent or refractory solid tumors
ConclusionsThe combination of mTOR inhibitor and vinblastine given over an extended continuous schedule is safe, associated with a reduction in circulating angiogenic factor (CAF) VEGFR2 and resulted in clinical responses. Future studies using the intravenously administered mTOR inhibitor temsirolimus are planned. Pediatr Blood Cancer. © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Evaluation of effects of busulfan and DMA on SOS in pediatric stem cell recipients
ConclusionIn this study neither Bu nor DMA was observed as an independent risk factor for the development of SOS. To identify subgroups (e.g., infants), in which Bu or DMA might be risk factors for the induction of SOS, larger cohorts have to be evaluated. Pediatr Blood Cancer © 2013 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.

Evaluation of Oral Abnormalities in Patients Admitted to Oncology Intensive Care Unit
This study evaluated the oral abnormalities and the procedures performed by Stomatology Department for patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of the AC Camargo Cancer Center. Methods: This retrospective, observational, descriptive study analyzed data on 116 patients who had 330 procedures performed by a stomatologist between May 2007 and July 2011. Results: The most common condition was oral mucositis, which was especially common in immunosuppressed patients on chemotherapy (p

Interest of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation of the motor cortex in the management of refractory cancer pain in palliative care: Two case reports.
CONCLUSION: In the context of palliative care of cancer patients experiencing refractory pain that is difficult to control by the usual treatments, motor cortex repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation, due to its noninvasive nature, can be used as an adjuvant therapy to improve various components of pain, including the emotional components. By reducing the doses of analgesics, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation decreases the severity of their adverse effects and improves the patient's quality of life. Abstract CN10-01: Tumor surveillance strategies in pediatric hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes
Cancer is the most common cause of disease-related death in children beyond the neonatal period. Primary prevention has not been commonly considered in the management of childhood cancers as ‘environmental’ agents have not generally been associated with cancer risk. Evidence from genetic and genomic studies supports a rapidly increasing role for inherited or de novo genetic alterations in the etiology of many childhood cancers. Diverse phenotypes have been associated with many of these gene alterations, and genotype:phenotype correlations continue to be defined. Some cancer predisposition syndromes are associat...

Initial Testing (Stage 1) of MK‐8242—A Novel MDM2 Inhibitor—by the Pediatric Preclinical Testing Program
ConclusionsMK‐8242‐induced tumor regressions across multiple solid tumor histotypes and induced CRs or PRs for most ALL xenografts. This activity was observed at MK‐8242 drug exposures that appear to exceed those observed in human phase 1 trials.

Initial testing (stage 1) of tazemetostat (EPZ ‐6438), a novel EZH2 inhibitor, by the Pediatric Preclinical Testing Program
ConclusionsTazemetostat demonstrated significant antitumor activity in rhabdoid tumor models but showed no consistent activity against any other histology. Tazemetostat reduced H3K27me3 levels irrespective of tumor response. Further preclinical testing to evaluate tazemetostat in combination with other anticancer agents is warranted.

Physical Signs and Clinical Findings Before Death in Ill Elderly Patients.
Abstract Few studies have examined variations in both the physical signs and clinical findings in the final days and hours before the death of elderly patients. We determined the physical signs and clinical findings in patients who were at least 75 years old or were diagnosed with cancer with impending death and examined the association of these parameters with the profile and timing of their endocardiography (ECG) and oxygen saturation (SpO2) changes prior to death. In this prospective, observational study, between April 2014 and June 2017, we enrolled elderly patients who were admitted to the Respiratory Medicin...
