Metformin promotes ferroptosis and sensitivity to sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma cells via ATF4/STAT3
CONCLUSION: Metformin promotes ferroptosis and sensitivity to sorafenib in hepatocellular carcinoma cells via ATF4/STAT3, and it inhibits HCC progression.PMID:37326750 | DOI:10.1007/s11033-023-08492-4

Metformin Suppresses Hepatocellular Carcinoma through Regulating Alternative Splicing of LGR4
CONCLUSIONS: LGR4 could promote the ability of cell proliferation, migration, and invasion in HCC, which could be reduced by metformin through alternative splicing.PMID:36385965 | PMC:PMC9652085 | DOI:10.1155/2022/1774095

Disrupting metformin adaptation of liver cancer cells by targeting the TOMM34/ATP5B axis
EMBO Mol Med. 2022 Nov 2:e16082. doi: 10.15252/emmm.202216082. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMetformin, a well-known antidiabetic drug, has been repurposed for cancer treatment; however, recently observed drug resistance and tumor metastasis have questioned its further application. Here, we found that long-term metformin exposure led to metabolic adaptation of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells, which was characterized by an obvious epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) phenotype and compensatory elevation of oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS). TOMM34, a translocase of the outer mitochondrial membrane, was upregulated ...

ANGPTL8 accelerates liver fibrosis mediated by HFD-induced inflammatory activity via LILRB2/ERK signaling pathways
CONCLUSIONS: Our data support that ANGPTL8 is a proinflammatory factor that accelerates NAFLD-associated liver fibrosis induced by HFD. The serum ANGPTL8 level may be a potential and specific diagnostic marker for liver fibrosis, and targeting ANGPTL8 holds great promise for developing innovative therapies to treat NAFLD-associated liver fibrosis.PMID:36031141 | DOI:10.1016/j.jare.2022.08.006

Abstracts of Presentations at the Association of Clinical Scientists 143 < sup > rd < /sup > Meeting Louisville, KY May 11-14,2022
Conclusion: These assays are suitable for routine diagnostic. The UltraFast NextGenPCR is the fastest with average time (30mins), followed by Agilent (2 hrs) and MassArray (6hrs). Upon completion of this activity, participants should be able to examine, measure and compare results from different assays for SARS detection, evaluate and diagnose accurately, as well as being able to plan, organize and recommend a diagnostic procedure for diagnostic laboratory. Key words: SARS-CoV-2, RNA extraction, RT-PCR, limit of detection, quantification cycle, COVID-19, in vitro diagnostic tests, Agilent, Massarray, Ultrafast. [20] From t...
