Hepatocellular carcinoma in non-alcohol fatty liver disease - changing trends and specific challenges.
Conclusions: The constantly increasing prevalence of NAFLD in the general population can contribute to a growing role of NAFLD/NASH in HCC epidemiology. Moreover, some particular challenges specific for patients with liver steatosis may impede proper HCC diagnosis, treatment and follow-up. PMID: 31631714 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Skin autoimmunity might be associated with increased efficacy of atezolizumab in metastatic urothelial carcinoma: a case report.
We present a case of a 61-year-old man with metastatic urothelial carcinoma of the right ureter and urinary bladder. After gemcitabine/cisplatin as the first-line chemotherapy and surgery, the patient received atezolizumab 1200 mg i.v. q3w. Following the first atezolizumab administration, he noted vitiligo periorally, on his hands, legs, and the scalp. The patient's overall survival (OS) of >26 months and continuing response to atezolizumab treatment is considerably better than median OS in the SAUL study of 8.7 months (IMvigor211-like patients' OS 10.0 months). This case indicates that increased efficacy of atezolizuma...

Glycolytic pathway candidate markers in the prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma: a systematic review with meta-analysis.
Authors: Mattos SEC, Diel LF, Bittencourt LS, Schnorr CE, Gonçalves FA, Bernardi L, Lamers ML Abstract Molecular changes that affect mitochondrial glycolysis have been associated with the maintenance of tumor cells. Some metabolic factors have already been described as predictors of disease severity and outcomes. This systematic review was conducted to answer the question: Is the glycolytic pathway correlated with the prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC)? A search strategy was developed to retrieve studies in English from PubMed, Scopus, and ISI Web of Science using keywords related to squamous cell ca...

The potential of gut microbiome as a non-invasive predictive biomarker for early detection of pancreatic cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma
CONCLUSIONS: To conclude, the field regarding the link between gut microbiome as a non-invasive biomarkers and early detection of pancreatic cancer and hepatocellular carcinoma exists, however, it is not well-investigated. Additionally, many of the studies were conducted with small sample sizes, whereas biomarkers are ethnicity-dependent and should be validated in wide range of populations. Nevertheless, these aspects are promising and open up new diagnostic options.PMID:34919227 | DOI:10.26355/eurrev_202112_27421
