The association of domestic violence during pregnancy with maternal psychological well-being in the early postpartum period: A sample from women with low socioeconomic status in Eastern Turkey
CONCLUSION: The results of this study revealed that women were frequently exposed to DV during pregnancy, education level and social security were important predictors of exposure to DV, and that DV associated with postpartum depression and postpartum anxiety. Exposure to DV and postpartum anxiety increased the risk of postpartum depression. It is recommended to integrate screening, guidance, and supportive counseling practices into routine antenatal care to improve the mental health of pregnant women at risk.PMID:38663055 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.104000 (Source: Midwifery)

Improving connections to early childhood systems of care via a universal home visiting program in Massachusetts
Child Youth Serv Rev. 2023 Jul;150. doi: 10.1016/j.childyouth.2023.106995.ABSTRACTWelcome Family is a universal, short-term nurse home visiting program designed to promote optimal maternal and infant physical and mental well-being and provide an entry point into the early childhood system of care to all families with newborns up to 8 weeks old living in defined communities in Massachusetts. The present study examines whether: 1) Welcome Family meets its goal of successfully connecting families to two early childhood programs-evidence-based home visiting (EBHV) and early intervention (EI)-relative to families with similar b...

919 granules improve postpartum depression through the regulation of abnormal peripheral blood IL-1 β
In this study, we collected peripheral blood from both healthy postpartum women and those with PPD, conducted single cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq), and used an in-house analytical tool scSTAR to reveal that PPD patients exhibit elevated proportions of peripheral blood cDC2 and Proliferation B cells, which are significantly correlated with IL-1β. Additionally, animal experiments were designed to validate that 919 granules can improve PPD by modulating the levels of peripheral blood IL-1β, providing a potential therapeutic mechanism for PPD treatment.PMID:38643545 | DOI:10.1016/j.biopha.2024.116623 (Source: Biomedicine a...

Validation of the Chinese version of the Fear of Birth Scale among pregnant women
CONCLUSION: The FOBS-C exhibits robust psychometric properties, making it a valid screening tool for identifying severe fear of birth. Establishing a cutoff point at 65 facilitates effective screening.PMID:38642425 | DOI:10.1016/j.midw.2024.103986 (Source: Midwifery)

This study aims to determine the prevalence and predictors of postpartum depression (PPD) among nursing mothers in Nsukka, Nigeria. This study was a descriptive cross-sectional survey among nursing mothers in three hospitals in Nsukka, Nigeria. Data was collected using a self-administered Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPDS) and sociodemographic form. The data obtained were analyzed using descriptive statistics, chi-square test and binary logistic regression.A total of 270 nursing mothers participated in this survey, giving a response rate of 94.4%. The prevalence of PPD among the study group was 20.0%. However, wom...

Peripartal COVID-19-Related Restrictions and Psychological Burden - A Quantitative Survey in Austria
CONCLUSIONS: The pandemic-related restrictions led to anxiety, worry, loneliness and an increased risk of depression during the peripartum period. The balance of mental health was negatively affected by measures and restrictions. Even in times of pandemic, more attention needs to be paid to the vulnerable peripartum period.PMID:38631376 | DOI:10.1055/a-2293-2203 (Source: Zeitschrift fur Geburtshilfe und Neonatologie)

Roles of Nutrients in the Brain Development, Cognitive Function, and Mood of Dogs and Cats
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2024;1446:177-202. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-54192-6_8.ABSTRACTThe brain is the central commander of all physical activities and the expression of emotions in animals. Its development and cognitive health critically depend on the neural network that consists of neurons, glial cells (namely, non-neuronal cells), and neurotransmitters (communicators between neurons). The latter include proteinogenic amino acids (e.g., L-glutamate, L-aspartate, and glycine) and their metabolites [e.g., γ-aminobutyrate, D-aspartate, D-serine, nitric oxide, carbon monoxide, hydrogen sulfide, and monoamines (e.g., dopamine, norep...
