Acute ethanol poisoning - what to do?
I have a few questions regarding acute ethanol poisoning: 1. Let's say my friend is semiconscious and likely to vomit or already vomiting due to ethanol poisoning. Should i put him in recovery position or keep him in sitting position? I know aspiration due to vomiting is a risk but you might also want to keep the person awake as long as possible. 2. Which symptoms indicate for hospital treatment and when can you just settle for monitoring his condition at home? Let's assume there's a... Acute ethanol poisoning - what to do? Lead poisoning and FEP levels
Lead inhibits 2 enzymes in heme synthessis ;ALAD and ferrochelatase . Ferrochelatase is the last enzyme so it makes sense that protoporphyrrins can accumulate but what about ALAD ? If there is no ALAD( which is the second enzyme upstream )how can the porphyrrin ring even form ? Summary of question : 1) what is the FEP level in lead poisoning ? Also some extensions to the above question 2) what is the FEP level in sideroblastic anemia ? 3) what are the lab values for both these anemias ?... Pre-Med: UW vs UCLA
Hi! Forgive me if this isn't the right place to post this as I haven't entirely acquainted myself with this forum. I was recently accepted into both UW (University of Washington) and UCLA (I'm still waiting on a few others but I think it'll come down to these two anyway). I would like some advice on which school to go to for pre-med. I know one is generally is considered more "prestigious" than the other but that isn't something I care about at all. Please help me make a decision by... Pre-Med: UW vs UCLA (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Headaches and Muscle Cramps
Many CF warriors experience chronic headaches. I have not yet heard from any doctors a clear and reasonable explanation as to why we have the headaches. My suspicion is that CF is not directly the cause of the headaches, but all the stuff we do and go through as a result of CF can point to several culprits. All I can contribute to this issue is my own experience. I have gone through periods of time with continuous headaches (if I don’t medicate the headache) and periods of time with absolutely no headaches. By the process of elimination, I have come to some conclusions. Due to CF causing a rapid depletion of vit...
