Question re: anesthesia reimbursement for plastics
Hello, I sometimes cover an office based oculo-plastic surgeon (blephs etc) for an anesthesia practice. This anesthesia practice pays me market rate but I have my own malpractice etc so I am thinking of doing this work independently and directly with the plastic surgeons - either their office or ASC. I am doing the labor and taking all the liability anyways, as opposed to being in a group setting. Offsite and office based anesthesia carries its own set of risks and nuances, such as limited... Plastic surgery fellowship?
Hi y'all, Wanted to ask this community a question that a family friend of mine has been asking me, and I am not quite sure of the answer. They are looking for a plastic surgeon to perform a cosmetic surgery, and as I was looking at the plastic surgeons training, I noticed: Internal year, surgery > Residency, Head & Neck Surgical Oncology/Microvascular Reconstruction (well respected institution) >Fellowship, Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery @ "a no name type of surgery center... Evaluating top plastic surgeons who specialize in reconstruction
I was discussing with a friend about this the other day about how many plastic surgeons who have the most recognizable names in the field usually specialize in cosmetic procedures rather than reconstructive ones, which makes sense as they are the most lucrative/in-demand. NewsWeek for example has rankings on the most well-regarded plastic surgeons based on categories of cosmetic procedures only. This makes it difficult to determine who would be good at doing reconstruction specifically. I am... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Brazilian butt lift death
My daughter died from a Brazilian butt lift — and I want to warn others about this ‘shop of horrors’ “It’s just the worst thing,” said Nancy Negron. “You aren’t supposed to bury your children.” nypost.com This story is all sorts of weird. Any physician can perform plastic surgery in NY? Surprising that they advertise no BMI limit. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

University of Kentucky vs. Howard
Hello, I've been thinking about this for weeks and am still torn so I thought I'd reach out to see what everyone's thoughts are. I'm OOS (FL) for both schools and will likely want to return for residency. I am currently considering going into anesthesiology, plastic surgery, or psychiatry. Thank you in advance! University of Kentucky College of Medicine (bowling green campus) Pros smaller class size (better for interacting with faculty/staff) newer facilities, classrooms... Obtaining free hyaluronidase?
Crossposting from the dermatology forum: I'm wondering if anyone has advice on how to obtain free hyaluronidase for our cosmetic teaching sessions. We have tons of filler, neurotoxin, etc, through various resident cosmetic grants, but I can't find any resources for obtaining hyaluronidase. We currently borrow it from our cosmetic attending, but it would be ideal to get our own supply for multiple reasons. Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How is medical scope enforced?
One thing I've always wondered is how scope of practice between board-certified physicians is enforced? Like say I'm a trained general surgeon, but I perform brain surgery. What happens, do I just get sued for malpractice (assuming something goes wrong because I don't have the training to do what I'm doing)? Or can will my board or the board for the scope of the procedure I did come after me? And how is this decided in more borderline cases, like where dermatology and plastic surgery might... Non-ABPS boards
What are general thoughts on non-ABPS certifications? American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery American Board of Facial Cosmetic Surgery American Boar of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Obviously the ABPS hates them. But if you're a general surgeon doing one of these and NOT planning on doing flaps or real reconstruction, just cosmetic surgeries, is there any problem with it? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
