Getting Cosmetic Surgery during Residency
The program I am at has about a 2 week break later this year. I am considering getting a rhinoplasty during this time. I believe there is still somewhat of a stigma for getting this procedure as a guy. How big of a no-no is this (assuming that I recover fine and don't let it affect my day-to-day responsibilities)? For what it's worth, it would be fairly noticeable since I do have a deviated nasal axis. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hopkins vs. USC
Seems like a no brainer, right? Well... 23 y.o. LA native who graduated from LA undergrad last year. Definitively want to do residency and practice in SoCal. I’ve shadowed general surg, peds, outpatient and consultant psych, plastic surgery, hospitalist, ortho, CTICU + scribed for cardiologist for 1 year. My favorite specialties by far were psych and peds. I didn’t care much for procedural specialties or academia and see myself as a regular private practice doctor for IM or psych. Focus on... Some program reviews for future applicants
Hopefully, this post will be well received by future plastic surgery applicants. It is purely intended to be one individual's opinion of various programs and in no way a condemnation of any program. IMHO, every program graduates competent residents it just depends on what you want from a training program. During the application process I enjoyed reading varying accounts of PRS programs and thought I would give back. Here are some brief pros and cons of several places: 1. NYU Pros:... How to Match in Plastic Surgery
What does it take? There are a lot of really old threads on this topic, so I wanted to open up a new post. Here's what I've heard - research, connections, Step 1, etc. --- what teases apart a strong applicant? What can you do you make yourself competitive during each year of medical school MS 1, 2, 3, 4? What qualities does a Plastic Surgeon have? What sets a plastic surgeon apart from other surgeons? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Plastic Surgery Sub-I Tutor
The absolute key to doing well on Plastic Surgery rotations is meeting someone who will tell you the answers to the secret questions that you are guaranteed to be asked. In plastic surgery, for every operation or problem, there are classic questions that have been passed down through the generations of attendings, residents and medical students. They are so repeated that all medical students will learn them by the end of their 2nd or 3rd sub-I. However, you want to be the rare all-star... Future Surgical Specialities
Hi All, I've been doing quite a bit of reading into the history of surgery, and it raised the question "are there any more surgical specialities to create?" . In the near future or ever at all do you think there are more surgical specialities to create as Harold Gillies did with modern plastic surgery, Harvey Cushing for modern neurosurgery and Jones with orthopaedics. My thinking is that we have all body parts and ages covered so there isn't really any space for new surgical specialities,... Future Surgical Specialities (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Here are some things for you to consider in making that decision:•New medical schools typically have smaller class sizes.
