Research year
Hi all, I don't know who to ask for help or guidance as I don't have that support at my medical school (unfortunately), but I have been very interested in plastic surgery since I was a pre-med working at an outpatient office, and I have been trying my best lately to get into a research year, as I am almost done with my third year. I have gotten interviews for 6 programs, so the issue is not getting the interview, but the issue is why I am not selected for the position post-interview. I... Hand Surgery
Anyone is plastics not like hand surgery? I understand that it’s a residency requirement, but out of curiosity, how many of you finished what you needed in hand and felt “well, never doing that again.” (Source: Student Doctor Network)

MS1 Trying to Prepare Competitive Application, Although Need Help Picking Specialty. Plastics vs ENT vs Derm
Hi! Current MS1 thinking ahead and wanting some advice. I am trying to set up a competitive application although I am unsure of what specialty to gear it towards. At the beginning of the year, I was interested in plastic surgery, although as I have gotten involved with research projects, shadowed, and talked to different surgeons, I am unsure if I am cut out for surgery. Why I am interested in plastic surgery: I am creative and have an artistic eye (fairly decent painter for many... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

High Pass Grades
Currently on clerkships and have gotten high pass on 3 rotations so far. Starting to get worried as I'm interested in plastic surgery. I keep missing the honors mark because of the shelf exams.....evals have been great. Will this be a problem? Automatic DOA? Any advice? Will say that I'm currently at a top institution for plastic surgery (doximity). (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Is having a home program that important?
Hey everyone, I am a soon-to-be MS1 and having a tough time deciding where to go. I have worked in the OR for over a decade and know that I want to pursue plastics. I have been accepted to OU, and it is where I felt the most at home when touring the campus, however they do not have an integrated plastics program. They do have an independent program though. I also have an acceptance at UTMB which does have an integrated program, but is significantly farther from home in Dallas where my... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Plastic surgeon probed after wife dies on his operating table, with 911 call saying she was ‘overmedicated’
A Florida plastic surgeon is under investigation after his wife died while he was giving her “several” procedures — allegedly while overmedicated on a drug only being used because… nypost.com Everyone thinks they can play anesthesiologist. This one probably sounds like murder with feigned "overmedication". What is up with plastic surgeons specifically. They have an unusual over-representation of bad behavior and medical mishaps. Experimental rhinoplasty technique to thin out thick nasal tip skin - using tattoo equipment (MMP) to instill triamcinolone
I was thinking about possible ways to thin the skin of the nasal tip in preparation for or after a rhinoplasty. Why don't we investigate the administration of triamcinolone to bulbous regions of thick nasal tip skin using tattoo equipment? It seems this might work because it would reach the dermis only. Microdosing would reduce risk of irregular skin atrophy/dents. Has been successfully tried for alopecia areata in study. It did not harm the skin. Doi: 10.1159/000506314 What are your...
