Volunteering at an Oral Surgeons office?
I'm pre-med, and want to go to medical school, but one of the best long-term volunteer opportunities available to me right now is volunteering and shadowing in an oral and maxillofacial surgeons' office? Would this raise questions to admissions committees (i.e. why didnt you go to dental school?) I decided pretty late in the game I wanted to apply to medical school and am trying to be ready for next cycle. I've shadowed in the emergency room, and for a plastic surgeon pretty regularly, as... Some questions from a (naive) med student
Some background: I'm starting medical school this Fall and will probably try to do some shadowing to get an inside look into plastic surgery. Currently, I'm not leaning towards anything surgical, but we all know that could change in an instant with some more exposure during rotations. For some reason I find the idea (key word is idea) of cosmetic plastic surgery really fascinating and rewarding. In a stem cell face lift, the areas on the face where additional volume is desired are outlined with a surgical marker. Your surgeon will also mark the incision sites through which the fat will be injected. The incisions are small (approximately 2 to 3 millimeters in length).
