Complex Penile Surgery: Plication, Grafting, and Implants

Epub 2022 Jun 30.ABSTRACTSurgical treatments for Peyronie's disease and erectile dysfunction are generally straightforward and associated with excellent outcomes. However, severe (>60°) and multidirectional curvature, hourglass deformity, severe penile shortening, and ossified plaque may complicate surgery in patients with Peyronie's disease. Similarly, a history of priapism, prior implant infection, and penile injury can pose challenges to successful implant surgery secondary to severe corporal fibrosis. Thus, when these pathophysiological pro...

Intratunical injection of rat-derived bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells prevents fibrosis and is associated with increased Smad7 expression in a rat model of Peyronie's disease
CONCLUSIONS: The antifibrotic effects of BMSCs treatment in the active phase of the PD rat model were better than those in the chronic phase. A possible mechanism of BMSCs treatment was related to increased Smad7 expression, suggesting a possible effective and safe procedure for the treatment of PD.PMID:35908015 | DOI:10.1186/s13287-022-03090-w (Source: Cell Research)

Tolerance and efficacy of platelet-rich plasma injections in Peyronie's disease: Pilot study
CONCLUSION: Our initial experience suggests that PRP injections for Peyronie's disease are safe. Although the limited data is suggestive of efficacy, a placebo control will be required for confirmation.PMID:35778315 | DOI:10.1016/j.purol.2022.05.004 (Source: Progres en Urologie)
