PS Advice
I'm currently writing my PS and am having a little difficulty. My interest in medicine is primarily in the brain, specifically stuff like Parkinson's, stroke, TBI, neurodegenerative diseases etc. I've worked in 3 different research labs that all focused on the brain ranging from neurobio of metabolism, exercise, memory, and movement disorders. BP in brain stims?
So we do a lot of brain stims for Parkinson's. And the surgeon requires a blood pressure of sbp<130 thru the entire case BC she says it is unsafe and can lead to hemorrhage above that SBP. Anyone with experience in these cases? We don't have many surgeons doing this here so I am wondering what your experiences are for these cases. It can get a bit annoying since patient goes from sedated to fully awake to test the stim and some of them freak out/get rly anxious and their bp goes up and... BP in brain stims? PC strikes again
So the WHO wants us to stop using geographical or personal names etc... to describe diseases as this could lead to discrimination. Note the worry - discrimination , not confusion.  No more German measles , swine 'flu  etc... No more Parkinson's. Just think of the interpretation by the public : Parkinson's disease eliminated. Ebola should go as it suggests a place of origin and might give Africa a bad name.  Some rational system for medical nomenclature should be in place , but surely some of this is PC going cuckoo ?
