Effects of antidepressant on FKBP51 mRNA expression and neuroendocrine hormones in patients with panic disorder
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of escitalopram on the peripheral expression of hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis-related genes (FKBP51, HSP90, NR3C1 and POMC) and HPA-axis hormon... (Source: BMC Psychiatry)

Fear-related associations in children of parents with an anxiety disorder
CONCLUSIONS: Whereas clearly more research is needed, our results suggest that negative associations may qualify as a possible vulnerability factor for children of parents with an anxiety disorder.PMID:38593495 | DOI:10.1016/j.jbtep.2024.101953 (Source: Behavior Therapy)

Discrimination between healthy participants and people with panic disorder based on polygenic scores for psychiatric disorders and for intermediate phenotypes using machine learning
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that increasing the number of polygenic score combinations up to approximately 10 effectively improved the discrimination accuracy and that support vector machine exhibited greater accuracy among classifiers. However, the discrimination accuracy for panic disorder, when based solely on polygenic score combinations, was found to be modest.PMID:38581251 | DOI:10.1177/00048674241242936 (Source: The Australian and New Zealand Journal of Psychiatry)

Incidence of anxiety disorder among adults with hidradenitis suppurativa
CONCLUSIONS: HS is independently associated with increased risk of anxiety disorders. An increased risk remains, but is attenuated, when controlling for confounders. The relative risk may be particularly high among patients managed by dermatologists.PMID:38564268 | DOI:10.1093/bjd/ljae139 (Source: The British Journal of Dermatology)

Pharmacotherapy and cognitive bias modification for the treatment of anxiety disorders
Expert Rev Neurother. 2024 Apr 1:1-9. doi: 10.1080/14737175.2024.2334847. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTINTRODUCTION: Anxiety disorders are characterized by widespread and persistent anxiety or recurrent panic attacks. As a result of their high prevalence, chronicity, and comorbidity, patients' quality of life and functioning are severely compromised. However, several patients do not receive treatment.AREAS COVERED: This review discusses the effectiveness, safety, and limitations of major medications and cognitive bias modification (CBM) for treating anxiety disorders. The possibility of combined treatment is also discusse...
