I think this might qualify for the /awfuleverything subreddit. The circumstances sound terrible for everyone, obviously the soldiers killing and being killed, their families and communities, the folks trying to help. Long distance remote artillery fire can't be far away. A Secret War, Strange New Wounds and Silence From the Pentagon Many U.S. troops who fired vast numbers of artillery rounds against the Islamic State developed mysterious, life-shattering mental and physical problems. LSD panic attack public disturbance assaults, 8 years ago. Can I practice medicine?
Nearly 8 years ago, in the first few months of freshman year at 18 years old, I took LSD with dormmates. I had a panic attack. I went around the dorm buildings screaming that I was dying. I assaulted 3 people, a young man and two young women around the dorm buildings by going up to them, aggressively grabbing them, and telling them to call 911. Campus police arrived and restrained me. Over the years I've reflected on the distress, pain or potential trauma I caused the victims including... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Benzodiazepine Epidemic
Greetings, Pharmacist here. I see plenty of benzos being prescribed where I am. I would say vast majority are being prescribed by PCPs or midlevels. I understand the rationale. Psychiatrists aren’t easily accessible and hence PCPs end up managing the anxiety symptoms. However, I am bit curious about the prevalence of benzos being prescribed for chronic use. Current evidence points out benzos shouldn’t be used for managing everyday anxiety or panic attacks. In fact, it actually worsens the... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Please tell me there are schools with extremely supportive fieldwork clinical instructors.
I have been reading horror stories about fieldwork placements with terrifying, unsupportive FW clinical instructors who fail students. Students cry every day, they burn out, or get panic attacks. I am looking to narrow down schools that are very very good with programs and placements. Thank you very much! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

WAMC? All Texas and OOS DO
With the application cycle underway, I’ve been having almost panic-attack like episodes just thinking about having to go through all of this again. I am a reapplicant. I tried last year, and did not receive an II. This was mostly my fault, as I ended up submitting my secondaries way too late (end of July). This time, I’ve been determined to be better, and much more proactive and hope to have all my primaries out by May 24th. These are my stats: I am ORM. BS BIOLOGY: * Undergraduate... Trying to Overcome Anxiety/Panic Disorder in First Year
I’m a first year optometry student, currently in my second semester. I worked so hard to be in this position, spent years working as a tech and fell in love with this field. I also have anxiety/panic disorder that I’m medicated for (at max dose for my antidepressant), have had therapy for, etc. But since starting optometry school, my anxiety has escalated significantly, to the point that I’m constantly stressed and panicking, and it’s affecting my motivation in school. I was lucky enough to... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are future med students screwed??
Incoming M1 here, I try to ignore all the doom and gloom threads but it really seems like every specialty is coming to a head with midlevel encroachment or job saturation... Are future/current physicians gonna be 300k in debt with no jobs at the end of 7+ years of training and education or am I just having a late night panic attack? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Hello, So I’m in a bit of a bind. I was in orgo 2 and I had an A+ in the class. One of my closer friends was in the same class as me and a couple days before the final she had a death in her family ( a grandparent) and it threw her off completely. During our final she had a mental breakdown and a full on panic attack ans she asked me for help on the last two questions of the exam. Now, I know I made perhaps one of the worst mistakes of my life and I sent her my answer after I had submitted... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Not Sure How to Handle this Situation
I am in the fortunate position to have been accepted by my top choice medical school. However, I did make one misstep in the application process. In high school, I had a traumatic event happen to me which resulted in a severe panic attack. I have a brother who later went through a similar situation a couple years later. One way in which I would deal with the trauma was projecting some of my experiences onto my brother. While my brother went through a very similar set of experiences to me, I... Homeless psych dispo -WWYD?
Had a case recently with a homeless guy coming to the ED after being release from jail the same day asking for help because of a panic attack. He definitely was cogent and coherent enough that I didn’t think he was exhibiting any emergent toxidrome or withdrawal. So I give him a rx for a couple Xanax because he supposedly lost his after his car was stolen while he was in jail. I give him some lorazepam in the ED. I offer to have him stay overnight in the lobby for the social worker to see... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Okay. I'm finally ready to say it.
I left the profession in February. In January I had a panic attack that landed me in the ER, and several weeks later, having lost 15 pounds (do you know how hard it is for a middle-aged woman to do that?) I realized that my job was literally killing me, and I quit that day. Yes, I know I burned a bridge by doing this, but I would have ended up IN that hospital if I had stayed one more day. In the meantime, I moved back to the city where I used to live (I loved living there, and... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

PCP changing medication dosage
Patient was referred by PCP and was seen once. Patient was on Xanax and changed to klonopin for panic attacks with an agreement to stop cannabis, advised to obtain complete sobriety from cannabis otherwise no benzo will be prescribed while monitoring drug screen. Patient was seen by PCP who increased dosage of benzo and provided one refill on top of it while knowing my plan on initial consult and patient admitting to continuous use of cannabis as before. I have strictly warned patient on... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Medicine is not for me, what do I do now
I'm a second year student. During first year I had my struggles, but I generally enjoyed what I was learning and felt excited for the future. Slowly over the second semester things started changing for me and by the end of second semester I could barely read two sentences in my textbooks before having a full blown panic attack. I barely passed my classes. I went into medical school wanting to do family med and after residency locum tenens work. I always had the optimistic outlook that... Street Medic on a Medical School Resume?
I've been attending the George Floyd protests and have been using my first aid training to provide medical assistance to other protestors. Could this count on my resume? that's not why I do it, I'm just curious. I'm joining a street medic collective where there are medics with training levels of first aider (like me) all the way up to RNs. I am careful to stay within the scope of my training. So far I've wrapped an ankle, helped a girl having a panic attack, and recommended a dude getting... Street Medic on a Medical School Resume? (Source: Student Doctor Network)
