Predicting the risk of early intensive care unit admission for patients hospitalized with acute pancreatitis using supervised machine learning
CONCLUSIONS: This supervised machine learning-based model can help recognize high-risk AP hospitalizations. Clinicians may use the IAPR score to identify patients with AP at high risk of ICU admission within the first week of hospitalization.PMID:38628340 | PMC:PMC11018057 | DOI:10.1080/08998280.2024.2326371 (Source: Baylor University Medical Center Proceedings)

The effect of serum triglyceride levels and different lipid-lowering methods on the prognosis of hypertriglyceridemic  acute pancreatitis: a single-center 12-year retrospective study by propensity score matching
CONCLUSION: The severity of HTG-AP is not associated with the triglyceride levels at admission. However, rapid reduction of triglyceride levels can lower the incidence of local complications and respiratory failure. Compared with conservative treatment, insulin and LMWH + bezafibrate can both reduce the incidence of IPN in patients with HTG-AP.PMID:38625376 | DOI:10.1080/00365521.2024.2342406 (Source: Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology)

Comprehensive safety profile of dipeptidyl peptidase-4 inhibitors: a post-marketing study based on FAERS database using signal detection algorithms
CONCLUSION: Several significant disproportionality signals were observed with DPP-4 inhibitors. However, clinicians have to consider the comorbidities and concomitant drugs while prescribing these drugs.PMID:38626310 | DOI:10.1080/14740338.2024.2343015 (Source: Expert Opinion on Drug Safety)

The Use of Diets in the Diagnosis and Treatment of Common Gastrointestinal Diseases in Dogs and Cats
Adv Exp Med Biol. 2024;1446:39-53. doi: 10.1007/978-3-031-54192-6_3.ABSTRACTThe nutritional health of dogs and cats is important to pet owners around the world. Nutrition is inextricably linked to the health of the gastrointestinal system and vice versa. Gastrointestinal signs, such as vomiting, diarrhea, anorexia, or weight loss, are one of the most common reasons that dog and cat owners make non-routine appointments with veterinarians. Those patients are evaluated systematically to identify and/or rule out the causes of the symptoms. Some causes of chronic diarrhea are within the gastrointestinal tract while others are s...
