Pharmacists Held Criminally Liable for Opioid Overdoses
As the US opioid epidemic continues to soar, physicians have been held criminally responsible for patients' overdose deaths. Now, it appears pharmacists are also criminally liable. That's the opinion of pharmacy law experts who have watched the crisis unfold during the past decade. Keith Yoshizuka, PharmD, JD, assistant dean for administration at the Touro University College of Pharmacy, Vallejo, California, notes, for example, that in 2015, a California physician, Lisa Tseng, MD, was... Narcan atomizer
Anyone prescribing to patients, that are getting daily opioids, narcan atomizer and mandatory training of family members? I am thinking of implementing this for the small handful of patients that I have that I do prescribe medications too. I think the max meq patient I have is 60mg. It may be overkill but I am contemplating on making this mandatory for all my opioid patients. I can try to do some sort of overdose risk reduction and it may give me a false sense of security so I sleep a... Narcan atomizer (Source: Student Doctor Network)

DO school with GPA?
Currently going into my 5th year as an undergrad my GPA is a 3.365. I've had a pretty great upwards trend, with the past year of my school work hanging in the 3.8 range for fall and spring semester (classes like Organic chemistry, genetics, etc.) During my sophomore year my dad suffered from a stroke and my birth mom died of an overdose, effecting my grades quite severely. I plan to take the MCAT early august. I am a CNA with a little over 1000 hours of paid work. I'm also a college athlete... DO school with GPA? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

How is this not availability heuristic?
Question from kahn academy is "Emily is addicted to heroin. Lately, she has been using much larger doses than she had been previously. When her counselor asked her if she was afraid of overdosing, Emily replied, “I had a friend who started shooting up at 15, shot up his whole life, and never had any problems.” What type of heuristic is Emily using to justify her drug usage?" Since this info is directly available to Emily from close to first-hand experience, I cannot grasp how... How is this not availability heuristic? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Aspirin toxicity
FREE 150 SPOILER ALERT: I will be forever grateful if someone clarifies a timeline of aspirin toxicity (i.e. going from respiratory alkalosis to metabolic acidosis). Just did the free 150 where someone with 3 hours post aspirin overdose presents with metabolic acidosis. On the other hand, Uworld clearly states that the 12 hours is the transition (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Lawsuit alleges Lee County pharmacist overdosed girl
Thoughts? http://www.winknews.com/2016/10/31/lawsuit-alleges-lee-county-pharmacist-overdosed-girl/ From reading the lawsuit it looks like a simple error in typing/verifying that has happened to just about every pharmacist at one point or another. While it should be taken seriously, reading the actual lawsuit leaves me wondering. I'd like to know a few things: 1. What were they initially treating? 2. How has the child responded to antibiotics previously, if ever on them? 3.... Lawsuit alleges Lee County pharmacist overdosed girl (Source: Student Doctor Network)
