Collaborative Recognition of Wellbeing Needs: A Novel Approach to Universal Psychosocial Screening on the Neonatal Unit
AbstractUniversal screening for the psychological needs of families in neonatal care is internationally recommended, but is not routinely practiced in the United Kingdom (UK). The approach to screening taken adopts collaborative, strengths-based and dialogical methods for recognising the psychological needs of families whose baby is in hospital. A novel screening tool, developed through consultation with families, is described. Over one month, 42 o...

Generational Differences in the Nursing Workforce
The nursing workforce consists of individuals from multiple generational cohorts and includes a dynamic mix of nurses who reflect the cultural and historical events that shaped their generation. As the Baby Boomer generation retires and younger generational cohorts fill their positions, Generation X and Millennials are a growing majority in the workforce, and the number of Generation Z nurses is steadily increasing. Solving the Practice-Management Perception Gap – A Key to Creating Heathier Work Environments
The most recent American Association of Critical-Care Nurses National Nurse Work Environment Study reveals a continued practice-management perception gap concerning the health of nurse work environments, with frontline nurse managers (FNMs) generally rating the work environment healthier than do direct care nurses (DCNs). “A sincere ‘how are you?’ is already a sign of acknowledgement that you’re there too.” - Interview Study on the Support Needs of Adolescents and Young Adults (AYAs) Living with a Parent with Cancer
Parental cancer brings changes and challenges which affect the whole family. Evidence shows heightened psychosocial risk among the offspring. Research among adolescents and young adults (AYAs) facing parental cancer has mainly focused on these psychosocial problems. As a reaction, there has been an increase in research on the needs of this population, since this knowledge is crucial for developing appropriate support. Despite this increase, some AYAs are still underrepresented, namely those over eighteen years old and those who have a parent with incurable cancer. (Source: European Journal of Oncology Nursing)
