Menopausal symptom management: Fezolinetant's varied doses provide effective relief for vasomotor symptoms in women - A meta-analysis of 3291 participants
Afr J Reprod Health. 2024 Mar 31;28(3):99-113. doi: 10.29063/ajrh2024/v28i3.11.ABSTRACTMenopause represents the physiological transition when a woman's reproductive period ends associated with a variety of symptoms, including vasomotor symptoms, such as night sweats and hot flashes. This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of oral Fezolinetant for treating vasomotor symptoms associated with menopause. Five electronic databases were searched from their inception until May 2023. Via the Cochrane risk of bias tool, two reviewers assessed the studies' quality. The primary outcomes w...

Hormone and reproductive factors and risk of systemic lupus erythematosus: a Mendelian randomized study
AbstractSystemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune and inflammatory disease with a risk associated with hormonal and reproductive factors. However, the potential causal effects between these factors and SLE remain unclear. A two-sample Mendelian randomization study was conducted using the published summary data from the genome-wide association study database. Five independent genetic variants associated with hormonal and reproductive factors were selected as instrumental variables: age at menarche, age at natural menopause, estradiol, testosterone, and follistatin. To estimate the causal relationship between these...

Breast arterial calcification is associated with sarcopenia in peri- and post-menopausal women
Breast arterial calcification (BAC) refers to medial calcium deposition in breast arteries and is detectable via mammography. Sarcopenia, which is characterised by low skeletal muscle mass and quality, is associated with several serious clinical conditions, increased morbidity, and mortality. Both BAC and sarcopenia share common pathologic pathways, including ageing, diabetes, and chronic kidney disease. Therefore, this study evaluated the relationship between BAC and sarcopenia as a potential indicator of sarcopenia. (Source: Clinical Imaging)

Recurrent fibroepithelial vaginal polyp in a 2-year-old girl: a case report and review of the literature
CONCLUSION: This case report highlights recurrent FEPV in a 2-year-old girl. Despite previous excisions, polyps recurred, emphasizing the need for complete excision. Documenting cases will enhance our understanding. Further research is needed to elucidate the pathogenesis of paediatric FEPV. Early detection, treatment, and follow-up are essential for optimal management.PMID:38576976 | PMC:PMC10990311 | DOI:10.1097/MS9.0000000000001836 (Source: Annals of Medicine)

Female-specific risk variables: From innocent bystanders to key players in cardiovascular risk prediction
Maturitas. 2024 Mar 21:107970. doi: 10.1016/j.maturitas.2024.107970. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThere is an increasing interest among professionals in cardiovascular medicine in women-specific risk variables related to gynecologic conditions over the life span. Although adverse lifestyle factors, hypertension, dyslipidemia and insulin resistance are recognized as the most important risk factors in older women, there is still uncertainty over how to account for other risk variables. For instance, migraine from puberty onwards, chronic inflammatory conditions and mental stress affect cardiovascular risk in women. As preve...

Sex- and Age-Specific Prevalence of Osteopenia and Osteoporosis: Sampling Survey
CONCLUSIONS: Our data imply that as people age, osteopenia and osteoporosis are more common in females than in males, particularly in postmenopausal females than in premenopausal females, and bone mineral density significantly affects the prevalence of chronic diseases. These findings offer information that can be applied to intervention programs meant to prevent or lessen the burden of osteoporosis in China.PMID:38578689 | DOI:10.2196/48947 (Source: Cancer Control)
