A 10-year clinicopathological analysis of ovarian lesions in a tertiary hospital in Southern Nigeria
Conclusion: There has been an increase in the number of malignant ovarian specimens in our centre. Though surface epithelial tumours were the most common category of ovarian tumours, overall, the mature cystic teratoma was the most common tumour. Serous cyst adenocarcinoma was the most common surface epithelial tumour and the most common malignant tumour. Keywords: Ovary tumours; ovarian malignancy; malignant tumours; benign tumours; histopathology Uyo. Minimally invasive surgery of a retroperitoneal teratoma located near the external iliac vessels
A 37-year-old woman was admitted for removal of a right adnexal mass. Ten months before prior, a 5-cm mass, believed to arise from the right ovary, was found during a prenatal ultrasound. Its characteristics were suggestive of a mature cystic teratoma. The patient underwent a cesarean section for deliver, but the mass was not apparent in the right ovary. Following delivery, computed tomography showed a persistent fatty radiolucent mass in the right pelvis, again consistent with probable mature cystic teratoma. Primary Ovarian Neuroendocrine Carcinoid Tumor Arising in a Mature Cystic Teratoma
In this report, we present the case of a 20-year-old nulliparous woman who was diagnosed as having a primary ovarian neuroendocrine carcinoid tumor arising from a mature cystic teratoma. She underwent laparoscopic right ovarian cystectomy, and her postoperative recovery was uneventful. The patient has been under close observation over a 1-year follow-up period and has shown no evidence of tumor recurrence.Case Rep Oncol 2023;16:157 –161 (Source: Case Reports in Oncology)

40. Desmoplastic Nodular Medulloblastoma-like Tumor Arising from an Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma: A Case Report
A secondary somatic malignancy (SSM) occurs due to malignant transformation of a somatic component in a mature cystic teratoma (MCT). The phenomenon is rare, occurring in only 0.2-2% of MCTs, and can mimic immature teratoma. In general, prognosis of mature cystic teratoma with SSM is worse than with MCT alone, and consideration of additional adjuvant therapies specific to the given secondary somatic neoplasm is warranted.
