Dr. Craig Joseph Introduces Designing for Health
There are many books about design, but a recent book by Craig Joseph, MD and Jerome Pagani, Designing for Health: The Human-Centered Approach, applies design principles to EHRs and to IT systems in general. In this video, Dr. Joseph, chief medical officer at Nordic, explains some of the experiences and achievements that lay behind the book. His principles include recognizing the importance of design (instead of letting systems evolve haphazardly), bringing “people who do the work day in day out” into the design process from the start, using nudges and defaults to facilitate making the most common choices (̶...

When conferences become an “ Edutainment Industry ” the specialty of Cardiology leads from front !
Recently , I received two e-mail invite for two major conferences one in India other in Europe. Once upon a time, in 1990s we as fellows used to attend these conference for Rs 1000 (15 Euros/Dollors). Now it is 50-75(5000-7500%times increased) Even few years ago it was affordable. How medical training indoctrinates toxic beliefs in physicians
There’s a great irony that exists within medicine. We are taught to critically examine all scientific evidence; however, there are a series of beliefs we learn about the profession as a whole that we’re meant to accept without question. Essentially, during our medical training, we are indoctrinated with a set of harmful beliefs about what Read more… How medical training indoctrinates toxic beliefs in physicians originally appeared in KevinMD.com. Lifelong Learning: The Key to Mastering Your AI Toolkit
The AI revolution isn’t just coming – it’s here. 2023 was a wild ride, but 2024 is ramping things up even faster. New tools emerge constantly, and staying updated requires significant time and attention. I’m incredibly grateful for the power these tools grant us. As an individual without a large team or massive resources, they’re the closest thing to a superpower I’ve seen. I brainstorm better, get more done in less time… it’s amazing! But here’s the catch: the value you get from AI is directly tied to how well you use it. Realizing that potential boils down, at least wit...

Digital Health, Menopause, And The $150 Billion Ignorance
The idea of this story came from personal experience. During the past year, I have spent countless hours and a bucketload of money trying to figure out what the heck is wrong with my health. I was feeling worse and worse, having various symptoms, totally inexplicable with my impeccable test results. During this journey, not a single doctor asked or suggested that my symptoms may come from entering perimenopause – the stage of life of women preceding menopause.  I am 47 years old, and as I have learned since then, extremely average in starting to have perimenopause symptoms at the age of 47. Also very average ...

An analysis of History Written on the Water
My most recent song is out now for streaming and download via BandCamp. I’ve already talked about how it came to be and alluded to the origins of the title in the engraving on young English poet John Keats’ headstone – Here Lies One Whose Name was writ in Water With this song History Written on the Water I tried to weave a tapestry of imagery and metaphor, exploring themes of secrets, betrayal, faithlessness, loss, and the relentless passage of time. Secrets and Betrayal: My lyrics refer to secrets, suggesting that there are hidden truths that have been concealed or obscured. Lines like “The secret...
