Parents ’ perception of overweight-obese children Quality of Life in different settings
ConclusionsCorrelation between children's and parents' HRQoL scores is higher in the clinical setting compared to the school setting. Implementing this questionnaire on a large scale would allow us to identify settings which need awareness-raising initiatives to improve parents' knowledge about their children's health.Key messagesParents ’ overestimate children’s HRQoL in the school setting, particularly in the Physical Health domain.Children ’s HRQoL misinterpretation might determine less targeted actions to improve their wellbeing and highlights the need for raising parents’ awareness about obesity and its effect...

Health impact assessment of a voluntary protocol to decrease salt in bread: what can we learn?
AbstractIssueHypertension (HT) is a major and modifiable risk factor for cardiovascular diseases (CVD), which can be caused by excessive salt intake. Portugal has one of the highest mortality rate due to CVD in Europe, mainly due to HT. Thus, reduction of salt intake from food products is one of major strategies advocated to modify blood pressure (BP) and its impact on HT.Description of the problemThe Portuguese population has excessive daily salt intake mainly due to bread consumption. Thus, in 2017 a voluntary ‘Protocol' was signed between stakeholders with the goal to reduce salt content in bread by 2021. Herein, usin...

A software package for monitoring and managing occupational health risks for industrial workers
Abstract At the present stage of development of any state, an important aspect of occupational health and public health is undoubtedly the protection of workers' health. In view of this, we have developed an automated system and algorithm for the approach to assessing professional risks. It is proposed to implement a campaign to manage occupational health risks for workers through the automated system “Software complex for monitoring and managing occupational health risks for workers at an industrial enterprise” developed in the Republic of Kazakhstan. This complex performs the necessary actions to create the foundat...

Evaluation of a tele-expertise experiment for skin cancer detection: the perspective of GPs
ConclusionsTele-expertise is a well accepted technological innovation in dermatology among general practitioners, which enables the best use of the scarce medical resources available in the region and to address the needs of patients. The sustainability of TLE in dermatology and its extension to other territories is possible and desirable.Key messagesTele-expertise in dermatology has its place in enabling the early management of malignant skin tumors. The qualitative approach makes it possible to understand general practitioners visions after the introduction of a technological innovation into their practices. Tumescent liposuction for lipoedema: A systematic review of clinical effectiveness and safety
ConclusionsThe current evidence is insufficient to prove that tumescent liposuction as safe as und more effective than conservative therapy for lipoedema. However, based on the limited evidence of the included uncontrolled studies, liposuction may potentially reduce lipoedema-associated clinical symptoms and improve the QoL.Key messagesBased on the limited evidence of identified uncontrolled studies, liposuction may potentially reduce lipoedema-associated clinical symptoms and improve the quality of life of affected females.High-quality comparative studies need to be awaited. The results may support and influence the effec...

Healthcare waste management processes and transition towards a circular economy
Abstract The new Waste Directive 2018/851/EU strengthens the role of waste prevention and emphasizes recycling to facilitate the transition to a circular economy. So far, it has not been legislatively necessary for the Czech Republic to look at waste from a broader perspective, especially in healthcare, where the waste management is perceived as a separate process suitable for outsourcing. With the new directive and the transition to a circular economy, the waste management process becomes part of strategic management processes. These processes are partially systematically covered by the standards of the environmental ma...

Deprescribing for community-dwelling elderly: A systematic review of economic evaluations
ConclusionsThere are few economic evaluations of deprescribing interventions focused on community-dwelling elderly. Although results varied across settings, time horizon and intervention complexity, most interventions were cost-effective according to the WHO threshold. Deprescribing interventions are promising from an economic viewpoint, but more studies are needed.Key messagesThere is a paucity of economic evaluation studies conducted on deprescribing interventions of community-dwelling elderly.Research suggests that most interventions are cost-effective or even dominant compared to usual care. Health Technology Assessment for COVID19: an approach for the Horizon Scanning of health innovations
ConclusionsThe implementation of this new tool presented for the large amount of innovations created in response to COVID-19 could be supportive for decision makers, especially in pandemic times when a rapid answer is necessary. Improvements in the subjective judgement process, by introducing an objective approach, is now ongoing as it could enhance the strength of the final decision.Key messagesIn a pandemic time as the current, HTA should be as rapid as possible without losing scientific robustness. The methodology described could be an answer in support to the decision-making process, allowing an adequate and quick prior...

Child health status from the parents perspective - judgement accuracy verification
ConclusionsThe correct assessment of the child's state of health and behaviors related to health is not dependent on parents' weight and level of education, but it depends on parents' opinion about their body weight. Almost ¼ of parents (24.6%) is wrong when they estimate their child's body weight. The main cause of error is the perception of their own body mass. Parents' ratings for healths-related behaviors show very low sensitivity and specificity. There is a need for objectification of assessment in relation to th e child's health. It is necessary to use verification methods of information given by parents.Key message...

In Silico Preliminary evaluation of Cx601 as new therapeutic approach in hospital clinical paths
We examined 8 studies published in the last 10 years, 5 of which were selected for the final analysis. The primary outcome assessed was the combined fistula remission (clinical + imaging) assessed through the clinical examination and MRI, the control being the traditional medical strategies (ie, antibiotics, immunomodulators and anti-tumour necrosis factor agents). We registered a total of 128 events (lack of remission) in the control group vs 94 in the experimental one (Confidence Interval for OR of 0,12-0,31, P< 0,001). Our “in silico” assessment is reliable, being the introduction of (Cx601) an innovative and eff...

Effects of antibiotic treatment on antimicrobial resistance in pig microbiomes: a longitudinal study
Abstract The United Kingdom has prohibited the prophylactic use of antibiotics in agriculture but they are still critical for disease control. It is thus vital to understand the effects of antibiotic treatment on antimicrobial resistance (AMR) spread. Hi-C metagenomic sequencing can help identify AMR genes in animal microbiomes and assign plasmid-based genes to their bacterial hosts. Leveraging Hi-C, we sequence antibiotically-treated pig microbiomes through time to identify dynamic trends in AMR gene prevalence. Fecal samples were collected at time points prior to and following antibiotic treatment in 6 farms across Eng...

Contribution of research-based pharmaceutical companies in Germany to personalised medicine
ConclusionsThe literature research clearly shows that although PM is not a new topic and furthermore, the research of pharmaceutical companies in this area is widely required, the number of scientific articles found is very low. The screening of company websites underlines this result as only 19 of 47 companies take a position to PM here and the scope varies greatly. Nevertheless, it is necessary to examine the reasons and how Germany compares to other countries.Key messagesAlthough introduced more than 20 years ago, the appearance of PM by German pharmaceutical companies in scientific articles is quite low.The difference ...
