Identification of serologically active Helicobacter pylori antigens related to alterations in serum pepsinogen levels
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023 Jun 27:S0325-7541(23)00031-7. doi: 10.1016/j.ram.2023.04.003. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTGastric adenocarcinoma is associated with Helicobacter pylori infection. The transition to a carcinogenic process is preceded by glandular atrophy and serum levels of pepsinogen I and II (PGI and PGII) correlate with this type of gastric lesions. Possible associations of serum PG levels in relation to the frequency of serological activity against H. pylori antigens were studied. Serum samples from patients with gastric pathology associated with H. pylori (n=26) and asymptomatic individuals as controls (n=3...

Mycosynthesis of silver nanoparticles using psychrotrophic strains of Tulasnella albida Bourdot & amp; Galzin from the South Orkney Islands (Antarctica)
This study is the first report on mycosynthesis of silver nanoparticles (NPs) using psychrotrophic Antarctic filamentous fungi, and the first report regarding Tulasnella (Basidiomycota). In this work, the ability to synthesize silver NPs from cell free filtrates of strains of Tulasnella albida isolated from Antarctica was assessed. All fungal filtrates were capable of synthesizing silver NPs with the addition of AgNO3. UV-vis spectroscopy, TEM and SEM microscopy analyses were performed to characterize the synthesized NPs. ATR-FTIR and Micro Raman spectroscopy analyses were conducted to find functional groups responsible fo...

Biological control of foodborne pathogens by lactic acid bacteria: A focus on juice processing industries
Rev Argent Microbiol. 2023 Jun 9:S0325-7541(23)00029-9. doi: 10.1016/j.ram.2023.04.001. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe use of lactic acid bacteria (LAB) in foods as biocontrol agents against foodborne pathogens has become increasingly known. Under the premise that controlling the adhesion of microorganisms to food contact surfaces is an essential step for meeting the goals of food processing, the aim of this work was to investigate the inhibitory and anti-biofilm effectiveness of Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG (ATCC 53103) and Lactobacillus casei (ATCC 393) against Escherichia coli O157:H7, Salmonella enterica and Listeria ...
