Evaluation of Xenograft Efficacy in Immediate Prosthesis-based Breast Reconstruction
This study uniquely evaluates the clinical efficacy of Artia in implant-based breast reconstruction.
Methods:
IRB-approved retrospective chart review was conducted to identify 243 consecutive TE-based procedures performed at a tertiary academic medical center between March 2017 and March 2021. Propensity matching was conducted to minimize differences between cohorts. Efficacy metrics, defined as initial tissue expander (TE) fill volume, number of TE fills, and time interval between exchange of TE for final implant, were compared between xenograft (Artia) and allograft (AlloDerm) groups.

Functional and Psychosocial Outcomes following Innervated Breast Reconstruction: A Systematic Review
Conclusions:
The results of this review show promising improvements in clinical and psychosocial outcomes in innervated breasts compared to non-innervated breasts. However, the heterogeneity of studies in the literature indicates that more multi-center studies with standardized methodology including the BREAST-Q, sensory testing and complication analysis are needed to adequately demonstrate the value of neurotization in breast reconstruction. Postoperative Outcomes following a Multidisciplinary Approach to HIV-positive Breast Cancer Patients
Conclusions:
While postoperative complication rates in HIV+ patients trended higher (17.6%) compared with the existing data on breast reconstruction patients overall (10.1%), HIV+ patients did not exhibit increased risk of BC recurrence (12.5%) compared with BC patients overall (12-27%). This highlights the importance of a combined multidisciplinary approach involving infectious disease, breast surgery, and plastic and reconstructive surgery to optimize surgical and oncologic outcomes in these high-risk patients. Lymphatic Function Decreases over Time in the Arms of Breast Cancer Patients following Treatment
Conclusions:
Lymphatic function in the ipsilateral arm deteriorated over time after adjuvant breast cancer therapy. Furthermore, the presence of abnormal torturous lymphatic vessels in asymptomatic arms appeared to be associated with weak lymphatic reserve pumping capacity. Erector Spinae Plane Block is Equivalent to Tumescent Local Anesthesia for Perioperative Pain Control with Abdominal Harvest for Fat Grafting
Conclusions:
ESP block is equivalent to TLA for analgesia when using an abdominal donor site for fat harvest. ESP block should be considered in fat-grafting cases to avoid the potential toxicity of lidocaine to the viability of adipocytes and preadipocytes. Machine Learning Improves Functional Upper Extremity Use Capture in Distal Radius Fracture Patients
The objective of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of machine learning (ML) analyses in capturing UE functional movements based on accelerometry data for patients after DRF repair. In this prospective study, six patients were enrolled 2–6 weeks after DRF open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF). They all performed standardized activities while wearing a wrist accelerometer, and the data were analyzed by an ML algorithm. Keloid Nodule Metabolic Activity for Continuous Expansion

We previously reported that keloid nodules had such specific structures that higher expression of autophagy proteins and glycolytic markers was observed in the central zone fibroblasts than in marginal zone fibroblasts. The purpose of this study is to investigate how keloid nodules play a role in metabolic activity for continuous expansion.

Walking can be reduced to the sequential activation of four motor modules. Activities during the stance phase are critical for both standing stability and forward progression and should be prioritized for reconstruction with the goal of preserving efficient gait. Transcutaneous CO2 Pressure Monitoring Increases Salvage Rates after Free Tissue Transplantation for Extremity Reconstruction

TcPCO2 monitoring was performed after FTT for extremity reconstruction, and all cases of reoperation were salvaged.
