Migraine and the microbiota. Can probiotics be beneficial in its prevention? - a narrative review
Pharmacol Rep. 2024 Mar 19. doi: 10.1007/s43440-024-00584-7. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTMigraine is a recurrent disease of the central nervous system that affects an increasing number of people worldwide causing a continuous increase in the costs of treatment. The mechanisms underlying migraine are still unclear but recent reports show that people with migraine may have an altered composition of the intestinal microbiota. It is well established that the gut-brain axis is involved in many neurological diseases, and probiotic supplementation may be an interesting treatment option for these conditions. This review collects...

Protective effect of hygrolansamycin C against corticosterone-induced toxicity and oxidative stress-mediated via autophagy and the MAPK signaling pathway
CONCLUSIONS: HYGC is a promising candidate to counteract corticosterone-induced apoptosis and oxidative stress. Autophagy and MAPK pathway inhibition contribute to the protective effects of HYGC. Our findings highlight the potential of HYGC as a therapeutic agent for stress-related disorders and serve as a stepping stone for further exploration and development of stress management strategies.PMID:38498259 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-024-00572-x (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Effect of polyphenols against complications of COVID-19: current evidence and potential efficacy
Pharmacol Rep. 2024 Mar 18. doi: 10.1007/s43440-024-00585-6. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTThe COVID-19 pandemic that started in 2019 and resulted in significant morbidity and mortality continues to be a significant global health challenge, characterized by inflammation, oxidative stress, and immune system dysfunction.. Developing therapies for preventing or treating COVID-19 remains an important goal for pharmacology and drug development research. Polyphenols are effective against various viral infections and can be extracted and isolated from plants without losing their therapeutic potential. Researchers have developed m...

Liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry method for mycophenolic acid and its glucuronide determination in saliva samples from children with nephrotic syndrome
CONCLUSIONS: The evaluated LC-MS/MS method has met the validation requirements for saliva MPA and MPAG determination in children with nephrotic syndrome. Further studies are needed to explore plasma-saliva correlations and assess their potential contribution to MPA monitoring.PMID:38485859 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-024-00574-9 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)

Are there sex differences in oxytocin and vasopressin V1a receptors ligand binding affinities?
CONCLUSION: These data suggest that sex differences in binding affinity are not a likely source of the many sex differences that have been observed in the effects of OT and AVP in hamsters and other species.PMID:38480666 | DOI:10.1007/s43440-024-00577-6 (Source: Pharmacological Reports)
