Clinical outcomes in critically ill children on extracorporeal membrane oxygenation with severe thrombocytopenia
CONCLUSIONS: Our results indicate a restrictive platelet transfusion strategy is not associated with higher proportions of subsequent bleeding, duration of ECMO, or on-ECMO mortality rate. Sudden pump stop may cause air release in oxygenators,'< em > The Hammer Effect < /em > ': An in vitro evaluation
CONCLUSIONS: We conclude that the hammer effect may occur before connection of the CPB system to the patient, and this may result in air release into the arterial blood side of the oxygenator. The hammer effect can be caused by clamping of the tubing in combination with a centrifugal pump, or by suddenly stopping the roller pump. Effectiveness of exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation for patients with left ventricular assist device: A systematic review and meta-analysis
CONCLUSION: This study demonstrated that EBCR following LVAD implantation is associated with greater improvement in functional capacity compared with ST as reflected by the improved peak VO2 and 6MWD values.
