Effect of blood conservation protocol on the utilisation of blood and outcome of patients undergoing open heart surgery
CONCLUSION: Implementing a structured blood conservation protocol in patients undergoing open heart surgery significantly reduces the need for blood transfusion. It also has a promising impact on patient recovery after surgery and significant positive cost implications.PMID:38491948 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241239838 (Source: Perfusion)

Extracorporeal cardio-pulmonary resuscitation in a patient with missed diagnosis of sodium nitrite intoxication
CONCLUSIONS: This case highlights the risk of failure of ECPR in the context of cardiac arrest due to methemoglobinemia, emphasizing the critical need for prompt recognition of the causative agent and early administration of antidotes.PMID:38485936 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241240036 (Source: Perfusion)

Effect of oxygen delivery during cardiopulmonary bypass on postoperative neurological outcomes in patients undergoing cardiac surgery: A scoping review of the literature
CONCLUSIONS: Limited data suggest that maintaining intraoperative DO2 above the critical threshold levels and ensuring adequate intraoperative cerebral perfusion may play a role in minimizing the incidence of neurological events in adult patients undergoing cardiac surgery on cardiopulmonary bypass.PMID:38486379 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241239279 (Source: Perfusion)

The association between cerebral blood flow variations during on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting surgery and postoperative delirium
CONCLUSIONS: Significant differences in %MCAV0 became evident after 30 minutes of CPB, whereas differences in %MCAV1 at 45 minutes of CPB were at limit of statistical significance. In POD group %MCAV1 was higher than 100% at 30 and 45 minutes of CPB, which is supposed to be a sign of cerebral hyperperfusion. Monitoring CBF during CPB could have prognostic value for POD.PMID:38487837 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241239823 (Source: Perfusion)

Meta-analysis of central and peripheral cannulation for type A aortic dissection
CONCLUSION: AoC is a viable alternative to PC for acute type A aortic dissection. While both approaches offer comparable outcomes, AoC's advantage in shorter operation time warrants thoughtful consideration in clinical practice.PMID:38472159 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241238865 (Source: Perfusion)

Comparing clinical outcomes of hybrid coronary revascularization with open coronary artery bypass in patients with multi-vessels lesions
CONCLUSIONS: For patients with multi-vessel lesions, HCR was comparable to OPCABG in long-term outcomes such as cardiac-related death, MACCE, and the durability of grafts. Additionally, HCR was better than OPCABG in perioperative outcomes. HCR may be an alternative therapy for OPCABG in patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease.PMID:38458155 | DOI:10.1177/02676591241238871 (Source: Perfusion)
