Acute kidney injury during extracorporeal life support in cardiogenic shock: Does flow matter?
CONCLUSIONS: In our cohort, kidney injury was common and Stage 3 kidney injury was associated with worse outcomes compared to other stages. Low flow was not associated with increased risk of kidney injury. Elevated baseline lactate and creatinine among patients with acute kidney injury suggest underlying illness severity, rather than flow, may influence kidney injury risk.PMID:38084918 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231220793 (Source: Perfusion)

The relationship between echocardiographic parameters and albumin bilirubin score in patients with acute pulmonary thromboembolism
CONCLUSION: The ALBI score, which is a common, easy-to-use, and inexpensive method, may be beneficial to select intermediate and high-risk patients in patients with acute PTE. Additionally, it may have prognostic value in distinguishing low and intermediate-risk acute PTE patients.PMID:38085551 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231221706 (Source: Perfusion)

Fresh frozen plasma transfusion after cardiac surgery
CONCLUSIONS: After propensity matching, FFP transfusion was not associated with increased hospital mortality, but was associated with increased length of stay and no decrease in bleeding in the early post-transfusion period.PMID:38085647 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231221715 (Source: Perfusion)

Optimal antegrade cerebral perfusion flow in patients undergoing surgery for acute type A aortic dissection: A retrospective single-center analysis
CONCLUSIONS: There was no correlation between ASCP flow rate and rSO2 in patients with acute type A aortic dissection. Furthermore, ASCP flow below 10 mL/kg/min was not associated with a reduction in rSO2. Definitive associations between ASCP flow and neurological outcome after type A aortic dissection surgery need further investigation.PMID:38082542 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231222136 (Source: Perfusion)

Bivalirudin anticoagulation for cardiopulmonary bypass during cardiac surgery
CONCLUSION: Bivalirudin is a safe and effective anticoagulant for CPB, especially for patients with HIT or heparin resistance. Further comparative research is called for to optimize bivalirudin utilization for CPB during cardiac surgery.PMID:38084653 | DOI:10.1177/02676591231221708 (Source: Perfusion)

Forgetfulness as the primary presenting symptom of type A acute aortic dissection
Perfusion. 2023 Dec 10:2676591231221208. doi: 10.1177/02676591231221208. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTAcute aortic dissection (AAD) is the most common lethal disease affecting the aorta. Neurological symptoms have been linked to AAD in some patients. Although aortic dissection patients have previously been shown to present with neurological symptoms, AAD with forgetfulness as the first manifestation is extremely rare. To increase the awareness of AAD among clinicians, we report the first case of a male Chinese patient with AD presenting with forgetfulness as the initial symptom. A 53-year-old man presented to the emergenc...
