Predictors of racial differences in weight loss: the PROPEL trial
CONCLUSIONS: Strategies specifically targeting engagement, such as improving session attendance and self-weighing behaviors, among African American individuals are needed to support more equitable weight losses over extended time periods.PMID:38058232 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23936 (Source: Obesity)

Plant-based dietary patterns and genetic susceptibility to obesity in the CARTaGENE cohort
CONCLUSIONS: These findings suggest that components of a plant-based diet and a shift away from animal products, specifically meat, might be beneficial for nutrition interventions, particularly among individuals with higher genetic risk of obesity.PMID:38057558 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23944 (Source: Obesity)

Game changers: do new medications make lifestyle-based treatment of obesity obsolete?
Obesity (Silver Spring). 2023 Dec 3. doi: 10.1002/oby.23962. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTHistorically, obesity was viewed as a lifestyle disease, with an associated lifestyle solution, and approaches that embody the "eat less, move more" idea have dominated obesity treatment recommendations for over half a century. Meanwhile, the prevalence and severity of obesity continue to increase globally. Enter the so-called "game changers": glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists. In the media frenzy around these and other new antiobesity medications in the pipeline, lifestyle-based treatment researchers and practitioners may fi...

Roux-en-Y versus one-anastomosis gastric bypass (RYSA study): weight loss, metabolic improvements, and nutrition at 1  year after surgery, a multicenter randomized controlled trial
CONCLUSIONS: RYGB and OAGB were comparable in weight loss, metabolic improvement, remission of diabetes and hypercholesterolemia, and nutrition at 1-year follow-up. Vitamin D-25 deficiency was more prevalent with OAGB, whereas reduction in antihypertensive medications and hypertension was greater with RYGB. There is no need to change the current practices of RYGB in favor of OAGB.PMID:37987183 | DOI:10.1002/oby.23852 (Source: Obesity)
