Associations of High-Sensitive Cardiac Troponin T in Healthy Newborns and Prolonged Second Stage of Labor, Neonatal and Maternal Factors: A Prospective Study
CONCLUSIONS: High hs-cTnT levels (ng/L) were documented in the cord blood of healthy newborns. Hs-cTnT levels were positively correlated with a prolonged second stage of labor and Pitocin use and negatively correlated with longer gestational age and higher gravidity. Hs-cTnT may signify labor-related fetal distress. A larger surveillance study is mandatory to establish this correlation and assess for possible prognostic significance of elevated hs-cTnT in this context.PMID:38016439 | DOI:10.1159/000534869 (Source: Neonatology)

Clinical Features, Diagnosis, and Treatment of Congenital and Neonatal Tuberculosis: A Retrospective Study
CONCLUSION: IGRA and Xpert MTB/RIF showed good positive rate in neonatal TB infection/disease. In cases where TB is presumed but etiological evidence is lacking, low-dose CT could be considered. Prompt treatment under careful surveillance is important for preventing mortality and avoiding severe adverse effects.PMID:38011837 | DOI:10.1159/000534786 (Source: Neonatology)

Early versus Late Caffeine Therapy Administration in Preterm Neonates: An Updated Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis
CONCLUSION: As compared with late caffeine administration, early caffeine is associated with a reduction in BPD, IVH, ROP, late-onset sepsis, and PDA in preterm neonates, albeit increased mortality. Additional RCTs are warranted to confirm these findings and evaluate whether the effect on mortality may be related to survival bias in observational studies favoring the late treatment group.PMID:37989113 | DOI:10.1159/000534497 (Source: Neonatology)
