Self-Reported Stuttering Severity Is Accurate: Informing Methods for Large-Scale Data Collection in Stuttering
CONCLUSIONS: Participants were able to accurately rate their stuttering severity during a speech assessment using a simple one-item question. This finding indicates that self-report stuttering severity is a suitable method for large-scale data collection. Findings also support the collection of self-report subjective experience data using questionnaires, such as the OASES, which add vital information about the participants' experience of stuttering that is not captured by overt speech severity ratings alone.PMID:38052068 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00081 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Pitch Variation Skills in Cantonese Speakers With Apraxia of Speech After Stroke: Preliminary Findings of Acoustic Analyses
CONCLUSIONS: The AOS group showed degraded pitch variation skills. The effects of the three linguistic elements were discussed. Future investigations are called for to adapt the TST in other tonal languages to determine if degraded pitch variation skills are present in other tonal language speakers with AOS.PMID:38052075 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00242 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Substitution Errors and the Role of Markedness in Bilingual Phonological Acquisition
CONCLUSIONS: Through the examination of substitution errors, evidence of between-language interaction and recognition of relative complexity emerged. These results have implications for clinical assessment and diagnosis of speech sound impairments in bilingual children.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL AND PRESENTATION VIDEO: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.24640200.PMID:38052067 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00116 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Child-Directed Speech in Noise: Testing Signal- and Code-Based Phonetic Enhancement
CONCLUSIONS: Mothers readily enhance the suprasegmental signal properties of their speech in CDS, but not the acoustic-phonetic properties of phonemes. This study fails to provide evidence of phonetic enhancement in preschool children in a dyadic communication task under noisy listening conditions.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.24645423.PMID:38039984 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00033 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

Feeding Characteristics in Children With Food Allergies: A Scoping Review
CONCLUSIONS: Children with FA/history of FA may present with a range of characteristics that map across the feeding skill and psychosocial domains of PFD. Systematic research is needed to fully describe the feeding characteristics of children with FA.SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIAL: https://doi.org/10.23641/asha.24562732.PMID:38040005 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00303 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)

The Use of Telepractice to Administer Norm-Referenced Communication and Cognition Assessments in Children With Hearing Loss: A Rapid Review
CONCLUSION: Telepractice administration of the norm-referenced assessments in the included studies may be valid, reliable, and feasible; however, the generalizability of these findings to other norm-referenced assessments is uncertain due to the limited amount of research.PMID:38016175 | DOI:10.1044/2023_JSLHR-23-00354 (Source: Journal of speech, language, and hearing research : JSLHR)
