Outcomes following intensive day rehabilitation for young people in Western Australia
CONCLUSION: This study describes a model by which intensive rehabilitation can be delivered in a day rehabilitation setting. A diverse population of young people who experienced disability achieved significant improvements in occupational performance, independence, and goal attainment after accessing intensive day rehabilitation. Improvements were measured in all diagnostic subgroups and were maintained six months after discharge.PMID:38108363 | DOI:10.3233/PRM-220102 (Source: Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine)

Folic acid prescription practice for high-risk prevention of spina bifida at a tertiary care hospital in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
CONCLUSION: This prioritization of spina bifida recurrence prevention demonstrates feasibility for other healthcare centers in low-income countries. Sustained funds to provide women with free folic acid pills can favor high compliance and uptake of this prevention intervention.PMID:38108364 | DOI:10.3233/PRM-230046 (Source: Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine)

Causes of death among people with myelomeningocele: A multi-institutional 47-year retrospective study
CONCLUSION: COD varied by shunt status. Leading MOD were infectious. Urology-related deaths (10%) were independent of shunt status; 26% of COD were unknown. Life-long multidisciplinary care and accurate mortality documentation are needed.PMID:38073338 | DOI:10.3233/PRM-220086 (Source: Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine)

Cecostomy tubes improve bowel continence for pediatric patients with spina bifida: A retrospective analysis of outcomes from a single clinic
CONCLUSION: Results indicate cecostomy tubes are effective for improving bowel continence in this pediatric population. Future research is needed to conduct risk analyses and determine the clinical significance of these effects.PMID:38073339 | DOI:10.3233/PRM-220123 (Source: Journal of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine)
