Trends in Urodynamic Procedures, Surgical Procedures, and Overall Health Resource Utilization in the Adult Taiwanese Population With Urinary Incontinence: A Secondary Data Analysis
Background: The prevalence and incidence of the main risk factors for urinary incontinence (UI) have both increased over time. In addition, official statistics indicate that Taiwan is on course to evolve from an aging society into an aged society within the next decade. However, most of the studies in the literature that address the natural history of UI target Western and other non-Asian populations. Taiwan lacks knowledge of the natural history of UI. The Benefits of Continuous Leisure Participation in Relocation Adjustment Among Residents of Long-Term Care Facilities
Conclusions: The findings support that, in general, residents of long-term care facilities who participate continuously in leisure activities adjust better psychologically and socially to their new life in these facilities than individuals in the other participation categories. As continuity of participation in leisure activities is important for successful aging, institutions should facilitate the continuing leisure behavior of new residents. Significant Effect of Acupressure in Elevating Blood Stem Cell Factor During Chemotherapy in Patients With Gynecologic Cancer
Conclusions/Implications for Practice: The findings support that acupressure on specific acupoints increases blood SCF levels significantly, which may help protect chemotherapy patients from experiencing reduced hemoglobin levels and may relieve chemotherapy-induced myelosuppression in patients with gynecologic cancer. This noninvasive approach is suggested for practical implementation in patients undergoing a course of chemotherapy. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Efficacy of an Ergonomic Ankle Support Aid for Squatting Position in Improving Pushing Skills and Birth Outcomes During the Second Stage of Labor: A Randomized Controlled Trial
Background: The physical positions that are adopted by women during childbirth significantly impact their childbirth outcomes and experiences. Literature studies have associated using a squatting position with reduced childbirth pain and increased comfort and pushing efficiency. However, the major disadvantage of the squatting position is that women may lack the muscular fitness and stamina necessary to sustain this position for a long period. Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare the pushing experiences and birth outcomes of three different pushing positions during the second stage of labor. Methods: A ran...

Relationship Between Maternal Characteristics and Postpartum Hemorrhage: A Meta-Analysis Study
Conclusions: Midwives, obstetric nurses, and obstetricians should carefully evaluate mothers for the risk factors of PPH during the antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods. Moreover, at-risk pregnant women should give birth in a unit with emergency initiative options. Future studies should examine relevant personal characteristics of mothers, as familiarity with the risk factors facilitates the management and treatment of PPH. Finally, meta-analyses should review more studies to detect risk factors more comprehensively. (Source: Journal of Nursing Research)

Psychometric Evaluation of the Chinese Respiratory Distress Observation Scale on Critically Ill Patients With Cardiopulmonary Diseases
Background: Respiratory distress is a common and distressing experience that strikes most critically ill patients with cardiopulmonary diseases. Now, most dyspnea assessment tools rely on patient’s self-report. Only one instrument, the Respiratory Distress Observation Scale (RDOS), is valid for assessing respiratory distress when the patient cannot provide a dyspnea self-report. Purpose: The aims of this study were to develop the Chinese version of RDOS through two-way translation and examine its reliability and validity. Methods: The first step was the translation and back-translation to establish the Chinese RD...
